Vision Boards: Planning Your Perfect Life, Effortlessly

February 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 168

Ever wondered how to make your own Vision Board or even what a Vision Board is? It's also sometimes called a Dream Board. Neither of these concepts is about creating a storyboard for a film or play; they're not about waking in the middle of the night and scribbling down your nighttime fantasies. In reality, their use is much more practical than that and has real applications in today's world where we place so much emphasis on planning, preparation and goal setting.

If you're at all familiar with "The Secret" then you may also have come across Bob Proctor's "The 11 Forgotten Laws". Essentially on the same topic, the latter expands greatly on the former's simplified approach to the Law of Attraction. In both cases, however, it's about attracting the things you want into your life. The process used to do this at a fundamental level is to make representations of the things, states and emotions you want in your life and have them as a form of physical reminder. That means you don't have to get hung up on the details but just need to allow yourself the chance to play with the ideas and dreams that you have.

If you've ever been in a "blue sky" meeting at work or in some other setting then you'll know how important it is to ring-fence time when you allow your imagination to run wild. There are times when we literally have to put everything down on paper that we think may be useful to a plan or project. This works in a similar way and takes the pain out of the creative process, particularly for those of us who haven't exercised that part of our brains for a while. Instead of looking for inspiration on that blank patch of wall over there, grab yourself a whole lot of magazines, newspapers and catalogues and go to town cutting out anything that takes your interest in a positive way.

Once you've accumulated a few examples of what you think you'd like to have in your life, sort through them with a playful attitude and try to decide what's most important to you. It doesn't matter whether you think the things you've chosen are attainable or realistic. It only matters that you find them appealing and that they have a positive effect on you. The images that remain once you've sorted through the pile are the ones that are going to make up your Vision Board.

The board itself can be a whiteboard, a cork-board or any type of flat surface you can stick the images onto. You're effectively planning your future life and even notionally setting the goals you'd like to achieve. Each image signifies something that you'd like to have in your life. Be creative in the way you stick them to the board but don't worry about a system or any logical progression to the way you're going to get these things.

The finished board may look haphazard but that's fine. This is a dream after all. The most creative minds can be chaotic a lot of the time. Without the chaos we'd miss out on some of the greatest discoveries known to mankind! Whatever its appearance, it should fill you with excitement. As you feel that excitement start to savor how it would feel to have these things in your life. Anticipate your success without worrying about how you will get it. Close your eyes and relax into a comfortable chair for a few moments each day and just enjoy the feeling that you have these things in your life already.

This seemingly unscientific process is one of the most powerful tools you can use today. Apart from focusing your mind on what you want to "invite" into your life, it also makes you much more aware of the coincidences and opportunities occurring in your life that could lead to achieving the images and states on your Vision Board. That's why it's so important to have a plan of any sort. Without its focusing effect how do we know which direction to follow?

I'm interested in all things spiritual and motivational. So when I came across The 11 Forgotten Laws I was keen to see how it could alter my perception of The Secret. I have seen many programs about self-improvement, and I've dabbled in Vision Boards (see, but this really seems to offer comprehensive advice about achieving abundance in your life (see ). Along with the classic Deepak Chopra text Synchrodestiny, with Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now and with classic texts such as Norman Vincent Peale's The Power of Positive Thinking, Bob Proctor's The 11 Forgotten Laws is certainly deserving of a place on the "e" bookshelf!
