Experience the Joy of Sex As You Age When You Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices At Menopause

March 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 166

During their menopause years, some women become more interested in making love and trying new things with their loving partner than they ever were, while others find their desire gradually becoming non-existent. Months can pass before they fully realize there's a big problem.

Being in pain, feeling unwell, being uninterested or unable to make love because of antidepressants, relationship issues or family concerns can all contribute to problems in the bedroom.

Decreased libido is commonly caused by hormonal changes - lowered levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Each of these hormones has a specific role in helping you become interested in being intimate with your partner. Estrogen helps you to feel heightened sensitivity and keeps your sexual organs moist and receptive. Progesterone keeps your libido awake. Testosterone, known as the 'desire hormone', also ensures that you can become ready for intercourse! When these hormones drop, so does your overall desire for physical intimacy.

The signs and symptoms that may accompany your menopause experience may not make you feel much like making love, and can include:

  • Vaginal dryness, which is a common complaint of women at menopause. It can make comfortable penetration impossible. Declining estrogen levels may cause thinning of your vaginal walls and less lubrication. Intercourse can range from uncomfortable to extremely painful.
  • Constantly having to deal with hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia can leave you feeling exhausted and irritable with zero interest in becoming frisky
  • Frequent mood swings can make it difficult to plan intimate times in advance, or get into the mood while it's happening. You may want to, one minute, but you may be completely against it the next. Feelings of guilt, unhappiness, depression and frustration can cause your libido to tank, as can several antidepressant drugs
  • Self-image can be a significant factor in a woman's desire for intimacy. If you feel uncomfortable with the way your body may have changed during your menopause years, it may affect your willingness to share physical intimacy with your partner.
  • Incontinence, weight gain and changes in your skin and breasts can all affect the way you feel about making love.
  • Women who have undergone surgical menopause can have a difficult time accepting their new bodies.

There are many reasons for not making love, but did you know that there are at least 15 health-enhancing benefits to having sexual intercourse with a loving partner? Chief among the health benefits of sex for women is it helps you live longer! Other benefits include lowering stress and pain, increasing your body's production of estrogen, slowing aging, better sleep, raising your self-esteem, burning calories, feeling happier, feeling intense pleasure and many more!

If the health benefits of sex aren't enough to inspire you to make love more often, don't give up! There are many things you can do to naturally improve your sex drive and ability to have a great time between the sheets during and after menopause!

It's interesting that researchers say the biggest factors in being willing and able to make love as you age are your health, and side effects from medications for high blood pressure, depression, and diabetes!

While communication is the most important aid to intimacy, and the need for closeness never goes away, sometimes you've got to get back to basics to set yourself up for long-term success. It's crucial for life-long wellness to take proper care of your physical, emotional and mental health.

It's especially important in your 40s and 50s to do what it takes to resolve health challenges immediately, if they appear, and make adjustments to lifestyle choices that you've been living with since your 20s or 30s. This means choices re: food, drink, exercise, water consumption, etc. Lifestyle choices, not drugs or added hormones, will have a lasting impact to improve your sex drive and allow you to enjoy greater health and wellness as you age. When you properly nourish yourself with healthy foods, the right supplements, and other healthy lifestyle choices, it's more likely that your body will be able to balance your hormones naturally.

Not convinced that you need to take action now? You may want to remember that change can be difficult enough without being forced to do it later when you're sick or old, or both! The significance of making these changes takes on new meaning when you consider that it may extend the years you're able to enjoy pleasure and intimacy with your partner.

Look for natural menopause remedies that can help you to take back control of your life, and feel and look better than you ever have. A lot can be done without drugs or added hormones, to help you feel more comfortable with your changing body, improve your sex drive and keep the joy in your bedroom!
