Memory is one of the important functions of your brain. Many times though, it is not sharp enough to remember things as much as you would like it to, this is when you need to work to improve its functioning. You may think this would be a difficult task, but it actually can be fun. There are a number of games that can be played to help memory functions.

1. Scrabble is one game that has been around for many years. It involves building words on a board according to certain rules out of the letters you draw. This process not only helps enlarge your vocabulary, but also helps to improve your memory and overall thinking ability. The games can be quite competitive among serious players. It can also be played for fun by loosening up some of the rules.

2. Any type of matching game where you have to find two or more items that match is another way to improve your memory skills. The items are hidden from you by either placing cards face down or turn the cards away from you as is done on the computer. You can actually just shuffle a deck of cards and then place these cards face down. Then attempt to find pairs of numbers rather than worrying about the suits.

3. Sudoku is a number game played on a grid. There is a specific method of placing the numbers 1 - 9 in each section of the grid. This sharpens your thinking ability, along with your memory.

These are just three examples of the types of games that can help you improve your memory. Along with games, participating in sports and physical exercise are also great for the brain and memory. Remember, you only have one brain for your whole life, for it to help you have great memory ability you must take care of it and even give it a workout on a routine basis.

Trying to remember things can be somewhat tedious and difficult especially if you've never been taught tricks and tips for increasing memory. However, you can also use memory improvement games so that your mind can be sharper and more focused overall. If you use these games on a regular basis your mind will just be more accustomed to remembering and recalling things and this won't be such a struggle. You can also use the techniques of many of these games to improve memory as actual memory tools.

People forget things, dates, names, events all the time. That's normal. However, some people are more susceptible to recall failures due to several reasons. It could be because of tension, regular use of prohibited items like drugs and alcohol which are harmful that can have disastrous effect on the brain cells. It could be due to age factors that bring dementia or Alzheimers to the persons or illnesses and accidents. Bad memory may just be brought by the absence of mental activities and exciting trials.
