Great Tips For Remembering People's Names

April 30, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 184

Picture this scenario: someone walks up to you and introduces themselves. They claim to have met you in the past but you just cannot recall their names. No matter how hard you strain your memory, their names just don't ring a bell. Consider another embarrassing situation where you can't recall someone's name but you have a hunch you have met them before. Such events can undoubtedly turn awkward for you and the concerned individuals. At times, you could come off as rude, unfriendly or just pretending.

However, it is understandable that remembering people's names can prove a laborious task. There is no sense in beating yourself about it - it happens to the best of us. Naturally, different people have varied levels of memory hence you should not set the alarm bells ringing. There are simple tips you can use to remember names easily. The first trick to remembering names is to repeat the name in your mind. This enables the name to stick in your memory. Alternatively, you can make an additional comment to the name to be a reminder. You can also tell those closest to you about the new friend you have met.

A pen and paper could also come in handy when you want to remember the name of a newly-made acquaintance. You can jot down the name of the person as a source of reference whenever you are in doubt. It doesn't hurt to have a combination of ear, sense and eye impression. If you are grappling with memorizing people's names, you can also create some sort of connection with the name. This connection could consist of the individual's face and their names. When you cannot recall their names, their faces would come to your aid.

Additionally, remembering people's names can be an easy task when you connect them to an object. This object increases chances of cementing the name in your mind such that the object would symbolize the name. The environment or the circumstances of the meeting is also another helpful tip. You should probably try memorizing your feelings upon meeting such individuals. This should be able to jog your memories and trigger the name. This materializes by accelerating other factors like the physical features of the person and the mode of introduction.

If you are some sort of a wordsmith, then you can remember names effortlessly. This involves conjuring a rhyme out of the name. Ludicrous as it may sound, such an action could make recalling names a simple task. This connects the rhyme to the individuals' physical features. As I had mentioned before, there is no need to hate on yourself because you are poor at recalling names. You can work on this by changing your attitude. Such negative connotations are a result of affixations in attitude. When you set out to change the attitude, recalling people's names will come out naturally.

No one can underestimate the importance of remembering people's names. In an interdependent world, it is crucial in establishing social and business connections. Such connections can be beneficial and last a lifetime. Furthermore, there is no denying that when you remember names, you can open many doors of opportunities. Thus, it is imperative for you to improve on your name recalling abilities.
