Three Types of Qigong Meditation

June 06, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 169

Meditation has become an accepted practice among many people these days. It is believed that the side effects of meditation are positive and countless. There are even a number of studies that show that those individuals who meditate on a regular basis are likely to have reduced illness, stress, and need for rest. The process of meditation also is in itself a blissful practice. During the process of meditation, you are transported to a state of contentment and tranquil awareness.

On the other hand, there is one meditation practice that is getting popular these days, the Qigong meditation. Literally, it means working with life energy. It is learning how to control the flow and distribution of qi (life energy) in order to improve the health and harmony of mind and body. Originated from China, its practice involves breathing techniques with gentle movements. There are also various meditations in Qigong that focus on a specific purpose. Such purpose determines the types of Qigong exercises. There are a number of types of Qigong and these are the following:

Medical Qigong

In many ways, Qigong can be therapeutic for your body. The practice of Qigong can strengthen your immune system, nervous system and internal organs. It also regulates the hormones of your body, reduces pain, and helps relieve stress. Other people also combine it with other therapies such as acupuncture, massage and herbal tonics in order to heal particular illnesses. Today, medical qigong therapy is usually being applied to those individuals with illnesses such as cancer, post-stroke syndromes, Parkinson's disease and chronic pain conditions.

Spiritual Qigong

Another type of Qigong is the spiritual qigong. Usually, it is being practiced in order to achieve harmony and self-awareness. Typically, it is a combination of seated and moving meditation, mantras, and prayers with the purpose of pursuing spiritual enlightenment. With spiritual qigong, you can achieve tranquility, self-awareness and harmony with nature and oneself. Moreover, the practice of spiritual qigong may also differ according to one's religion. For instance, the Confucianists exercise it to better adhere to their system of beliefs while the Buddhists has the purpose of becoming enlightened.

Martial Arts or Sports Qigong

Qigong meditation is also one way to improve one's skill in martial arts or other sports. Martial artists have developed a number of qigong moves that will help them develop speed, strength, flexibility stamina, and coordination. It can also help them protect from getting hurt. Nowadays, there are some pro athletes who are exercising Qigong to develop their skills in a particular sport. For instance, some golfers find Qigong useful to improve their game; football players for better tackles; and tennis pros for more accurate shots.

Joseph Wright is a Qigong Meditation guru from Melbourne, Australia. His principles in qigong meditation helped many people cope with their anxiety problems and taught them how to reduce stress.
