Tips To Give Martial Artists A Competitive Edge

Being fit, disciplined and strong are all attributes that martial artists have and all of this stems from having a strong core to assist with balance, which is probably the key element of martial arts. Martial artists who are looking for ways to enhance their abilities to give themselves a competitive edge know that weight and aerobic training will assist them however many overlook the benefits of stretching as part of their overall training program.

Stretching is often an underrated and undervalued form of exercise and strength training but the benefits of regularly participating in stretching should not be taken for granted. The act of stretching extend the various muscle groups of the body which helps to advance muscle elasticity and tone which in turn assists with range of motion and flexibility.

Whilst we do tend to subconsciously stretch at various times of the day, quite often upon waking or when we are feeling tired or have been sitting for a period of time, this stretch assist with boosting blood flow around the body and thereby giving us an energy boost.

Additionally we are told to stretch before and after exercise but the true benefits of partaking in this form of exercise are often overlooked due to appearing to be something we 'have' to do as part of an exercise regime rather than something we 'should' as a separate workout because we do not know the wider benefits.

This form of exercise can not only make muscle more toned but can also strengthen them assisting us to perform not only day-to-day activities but sporting activities to a higher standard with less risk of injury and should injury occur a much faster recovery.

One way to ensure you are getting the most from this exercise and assist you to push your muscles is to use a stretch band or a stretch band alternative. These purpose designed pieces of equipment are made from strong elasticised material and allow the user to control their own stretch, pushing their boundaries whilst ensuring they maintain safety.

Having a partner help you can seem beneficial however you have to rely on them a great deal to ensure that they do not overstretch your muscles and cause injury whereas a stretch band alternative allows you to be in full control to complete your exercise safely.

Being strong and flexible with an increased range of motion, toned muscles and an improved muscle control will definitely offer a martial artist that competitive edge.
