How to Become a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Champion

June 06, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 223

Becoming a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) champion is a great goal to have! Not only will your martial arts training provide you with an incredible level of physical conditioning and preparedness, but it will also sharpen your focus and develop your sense of purpose and resolve to near-superhuman levels.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has become one of the most popular martial arts forms today. There are various world tournaments and competitions held to determine the champions. These Jiu Jitsu champions have spent several years in practice and learning of this amazing martial art form. This form of self defense is not only a sport but also a vigorous training module to maximize your physical, mental and spiritual potential. If you are aiming to become a champion; however, there are some things to bear in mind.

The Right Environment and Training

First of all it is important to select the right BJJ School and trainer, which will provide you the right environment and guidance that are conducive to shaping a champion. If your trainer is one of the best, you too can become the best in the country or even the world. Additionally you must also train with those who have been or are aspiring to be champions. This helps one sharpen the resolve and determination to achieve greatness, while also providing sufficient competition and challenges to conquer.

Step by Step

Beginners in BJJ wear white belts. With regular training, they advance to a blue belt. As one progresses through years of practice in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, they are promoted to higher belt ranks. Your instructor will gradually train you to be able to compete in tournaments, but one must bear in mind that the process is slow, and one cannot be on top immediately. Gradually, as you become able to defeat more and more fighters, you will make your way towards the championship title.

Physical and Mental Fitness

The first, and most obvious, challenge a potential Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion will face is physical. BJJ competitors are among the strongest and most highly conditioned athletes on the planet. All elite-level athletes must be in great shape for competing effectively, but none need to exhibit as much all-around physical development as a BJJ champion. To defeat your competition you will need a high level of both maximal and explosive strength. Apart from conditioning your body to become a dangerous weapon, you will also need to develop mental strength- necessary to win matches.

The Early Bird

Like any other art one wishes to master- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is best started at an early age, especially if one aims to become a champion. Starting early will ensure that your knowledge and skill grow with you. By the time you are the right age to enter competitions; you would already have years of training behind you. Being a BJJ champion is as much about the attitude as it is about physical training. To become a champion one must first inculcate positive thinking and attitude. You must be prepared for the fact that becoming a Jiu Jitsu champion will take years of training, practice and dedication to acquiring knowledge. Winning a title takes intense resolve to give anything it takes.
