What's in a Marriage? What Does It Mean?

June 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 182

People, who got married for the first time especially young, think that it will be like a bed of roses. They are both madly in-love with each other as if it's endless, like a fairy tale. What they don't know and realize it's just the beginning of their new life living with a complete stranger. So, what needs to be done in a marriage?

M - Maintenance - the process of maintaining or preserving someone or something, or the state of being maintained; the process of keeping something in good condition, ex. "car maintenance"; "essential maintenance work".

Married couple should treat their marriage the same most especially. Why, because it's a lifetime commitment. They should be aware of things that need to be maintained in their marriage.

A - Accept - to receive, take.

Accepting or taking the person to be your spouse also means that your taking that person as a whole, accepting of who he/she is regardless of their past, their behavior and so on, whether it's good or bad.

R - Respect - to treat with consideration.

Treating your spouse with consideration is just plain and simple, that's "Putting yourself in someone's shoe", or should I say, "Don't do unto others what you don't want to do unto you."

R - Responsible - to be accountable; bound under obligation.

The person that gets into a marriage saying "I do", automatically has an obligation to the other spouse. You know, "in sickness or in health, for richer or for poorer" and so on.

I - Initiative - taking the first step.

Sometimes people need to be pushed because they don't have the initiative of doing things around especially at home. Household chore is one of them. Married couple who hasn't talked about the division of labor at home tends to wait for the other person to do it first.

A - Admire - to think well of; give praise; to appreciate.

Appreciating your spouse has a big impact in your relationship. It prolongs your marriage. Even the tiniest detail that your spouse did should be praised or appreciated, why because it means a lot to that person and feels that he/she is special. Let's face it, every one of us human being expects to be appreciated at least once in a while, right? (This is just a TIP that I read and I agree to that.) If your spouse did something wrong, try to make a comment in a positive way that will look like, you're still praising your spouse. This is an example, if you ask your spouse to run an errand for you in a grocery store or hardware and gets back home to give it to you. As you open the bag to check it out, you find that he/she got the wrong one. Instead of reacting negatively by yelling and condemning your spouse, your response should be like this, "Honey, I really appreciate that you did the errand for me in spite of your busyness. Did you have a hard time looking for this item? Or has anyone from the store help you finding this item?" Wait for your spouse reply. Your spouse may not know anything about the item. He/she just grabs it and pays for it. Say this "Honey, I'm sorry to tell you that you got the wrong one. I'll just return this to the store, have it refunded and will look for the right one." In that way, there will be no clash between the two of you.

G - Generous - giving away something unselfishly to the extent of not expecting something in return.

In a marriage, there are lot of expectations and it shouldn't be that way, why, because you'll just get frustrated, burned and stress-out. Since you got married to the love of your life, it is just fair to give your spouse the "Best", right? I know it's hard but try not to think of getting something in return because if you do, you just have received your reward. If both spouses have this kind of character, the "Give and take relationship" is not a problem with them.

E - Encourage - to strengthen or boost-up confidence; to back-up; to inspire

Supporting one another should be one of the priorities in a marriage. There are times that the other spouse is weak and needs to be encouraged by the other spouse who is strong at that time or vice versa. Having this kind of attitude also prolongs the marriage to the extent that your spouse thinks that you can be trusted and can rely on.
