Common Issues on the First Year of Marriage

June 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 190

They say that the first year of marriage is one of the most difficult phases in your marriage life, for this is the time that both couples would start to realize the reality of being married. The newlyweds will be confronted with their differences, which can be difficult for both parties to adjust to. Here are some of the best advices on how to face the most common issues in your first year of marriage.

Define Your Roles

Before you decide to marry your partner, make sure that you are already aware about the roles and responsibilities that you will have to take in your marriage. The problem with most newlyweds is that they are not aware about their responsibilities in marriage, which would unfortunately lead to conflicts between them. To resolve this, it is best that you sit down with your partner and seriously talk about the roles and responsibilities that you expect from each other.

Financial Matters

Money is a very sensitive topic especially if it involves you and your partner's personal finances, and thus, a lot of couples would ignore talking about financial matters. But talking about money before you even say I do is actually very important so you will know what the financial status of each other is and this would also give you an idea on how you could divide your daily expenditures. Find out how much each of you is earning and from there, come up with a budget plan so you will know how to budget your money.

Dealing with In-laws

Getting married would also mean getting yourself acquainted with the family of your partner, especially your in-laws. The thing is, some parents are fond of meddling with the marital issues of their children which often ends up to major conflicts between two newlywed couples. To address these issues, you and your partner must decide to put a boundary between you, your parents and your in-laws. As much as possible, avoid living together with your parents or with your groom's parents because this will just make matters worse.

Recreation Time

In the early stage of your marriage life, there are moments wherein you and your partner would crave for the single life that you used to enjoy. It's just too difficult to let go of the things that brings joy and comfort to you when you are still single. There is really nothing wrong with spending time with your friends or doing the things you used to do alone, for as long as you know what your limitations are, and that you also make it a point to spend time with your spouse.

In marriage, respect is one of the most important traits that you and your partner should learn to practice. Marrying someone does not mean that you no longer have the freedom that you used to have. To avoid any conflicts, respect each other at all times, and give the time and space that your partner deserves, especially that you are still on the adjustment stage of your marriage.
