Walk the Walk of Antique Bottles in Panama

August 05, 2010 | Comments: 0 | Views: 215

To the antique bottle hunter/collector, one of the greatest assets they could poses, would be an authentic detailed descriptive narrative covering the desired area to be searched, and would be dated to prove the antiquity of any finds.

One can readily realize the real value of such an document, when you allow yourself to be drawn back in time, immerse yourself into the social economic conditions that existed at that period, and being able to accept conditions as they existed.

A good "hunter" must be able to mentally regress in time to perceive the area as it must have been in the time period they select. This may not be easily accomplished for some that have trouble voiding their minds of the present tense, unable to shut out the sights and sounds of current surroundings, comforts and security.

For those that are able to "slip back in time", the rewards will begin to present themselves by allowing the "present" obstacles to fade from their vision and perceive the elements as they might have been, mentally establishing and following those roads, routes, trails and habitation sites mentioned in the document. Here, one must allow patience to be the leader. Without it, your efforts will be for naught.

With the knowledge gained from your readings, you can now, with logical reasoning begin to take those first steps to walk the walk of antique bottles in Panama.

Your guide will be one who has walked this walk, though he did use a mule to do the walking, his detailed record allows you to walk with him as he narrates his adventurous journey across the Isthmus of Panama in 1851.

As this trip could take from one to four or more days to complete, there were several rest stops and over night facilities to accommodate the travelers. Herein lies a bonanza of antique bottles, pottery ales and other items. It must be noted that there are no remains of any of those facilities, however many of the sites do yield great finds if the hunter is diligent in his research.

The document mentioned also has an 1851 map of all sites that were operational at that time, and is available as a bonus at:
