How to Deal With Sadness From Being in a Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships may be becoming common, but anyone who has ever been in one will vouch for the fact that it is no piece of cake. A simple relationship takes effort to run smoothly; and when you have distance to put up with, it can sometimes become unbearable. If you have been in a long distance relationship that makes you sad, here's how to deal with your sadness.

Keep yourself occupied

Yes, you are in a relationship, but that doesn't mean you have to be talking to each other every second. It's good to have some healthy activities and hobbies for your individual self. When you keep yourself busy doing something you like, you will automatically think less about how hard it is not being with your significant other. Even if you don't have that many hobbies, simple chores will do. Just make sure your days are busy enough to keep you from feeling sad and alone. This will also ensure that when you two do talk, it will be much looked forward to and you'll have quite a lot to talk about.

Make plans

Most probably, you find yourself at your saddest when saying your goodbyes after meeting up for just a few hours. Try to be positive and take the meetings, short as they may be, as a gift. Make plans about the next time whenever you meet, so that you have something to look forward to every time. Better yet, both of you can make lists when you are apart, and jot down anything you want to do when together. This will keep you excited for what's to come, and you won't be able to focus much on the frustration.

Be a happy person

If you aren't cautious, long distance might turn you into a mess. When you are sad all the time, you will start squabbling with each other and it will get too much to handle. As clichéd as it may sound, be happy for what you have. You have a partner who is willing to make it work, no matter what, and who keeps you involved in his/her life from so far away. Be grateful for that. Stay positive and don't let distance drag you down. Know that you are both trying your hardest and that just because you can't meet as frequently as you want is no reason to squander such an amazing emotional connection.
