How to Build a List - 4 VERY Important Strategies

After all these years, many internet entrepreneurs don't seem to have any idea how it's done, nor any interest in finding out. That's not terribly surprising. There are so many different ways to make money online - not all of them require your own list.

"The money is in the list."

I hear it a lot, and I'm guessing you do too. The rest of that statement, the part you never hear, is that your business's security is also very much in the list! Your list is your lifeline to your customers, the lifeblood of your business. Sure, it takes time to build it, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier and easier. And once you have your list, you never have to worry about your business suffering because of something out of your control - because someone changed their search engine algorithms and all your organic keyword traffic disappeared, for instance, or something equally innocuous and random. With your own list, you know how to reach your customers, even when new customers can't find you.

You can certainly start without a list. Hell, you've got to. But in the long-term, it is absolutely in your better interests, and that of your business, to learn how to set up, build, and grow a mailing list - your enterprise will be able to grow substantially larger and you will see much greater returns in the of way profits. It can double, triple, (and possibly much more) the increase in the profitability of your business as you build and improve relationships with your subscribers, and turn them into eager and loyal customers.

In fact, a lot of internet business entrepreneurs earn their income mostly from re-selling to their lists. This says a lot about the power of list building and it's effectiveness as a marketing tool. If you control your connection to your customer base, you control the future of your business. Giving this power to connect with your customers to a third-party is business suicide.

Listed below I've got the Four Important Strategies on how to build a list. These are strategies that are not too hard to follow and implement. That said, there are no reasons why you shouldn't be able to put them into action.

1. Instant Gratification - I want it all & I want it Now! Give them something of value right now in addition to the longer term benefits of their giving up their email addresses. This is just human nature.

2. Focus on a particular market niche - The idea of a "niche", a small subset of a larger market, applies very well in list building and email marketing. You aren't a grocery store that everyone in the area comes to, where it's good business to provide something for everyone and their every possible need. You have the internet, a much larger pool of possible customers you are able to market to a particular interest. You'll find plenty of customers, and if not? Start another niche.

3. Make it as easy as possible - for people to opt-in to your list. You only need the visitor's first name and email address to get started you can get the rest later. Note what I said above about suspicion of what's out on the internet. You're just starting to build your relationship. If you do a good job with that, you'll get the rest of their information eventually. In this case, less is more.

4. Seek out and send targeted traffic - to the page that shows your mailing list subscription form. You've targeted a niche. Find someplace online where members of that niche congregate. Find relevant blogs, forums, and articles and leave comments (the more relevant and constructive or informative, the better). Before you post anything anywhere, be sure to register on the site, if offered, and create a profile that includes the link to send them back to your sign-up form.

These strategies were designed to help you learn how to build a list. If you follow them, and persist with them, it will be a lot easier and faster for you to attract the number of targeted subscribers necessary for you to expand your mailing list. With the explosion of Social Media, millions of people are far more active online than ever before. If not already, all will eventually have email addresses. Often more than one.

List building remains as relevant as ever. You would be passing up potentially game-changing business opportunities if you are not building your own list. The process can be slow and tedious, but if done deliberately and done right, the benefits can be enormous.
