Leadership Coaching: How To Have More Joy In Your Life

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 118

What Do You See In The Mirror?

At one point when you accidentally saw a reflection of you in the mirror and you stopped by to have a better look, what aura of yourself do you see? Do you see yourself as a serious person? Sad or energetic? Nervous, confident or joyful? It happened to me one time. I looked back and saw an image of myself, somebody tired and sad. I lingered to look and there wasn't an ounce of joy on the face of the person looking at me. What I saw made me ponder, and I realized, I need and want to have more joy in my soul.

How can joy replace the sadness? I took time to think about it. Then I understood that fact that joy isn't just superficial fun. It's not even the shallow glee that makes you chuckle for a time. Joy is a feeling more profound. It comes from the soul and it doesn't have to make you pettily ecstatic. With joy, you feel an inner fulfillment, a wholeness and a sober kind of happiness. I asked myself "What makes my soul sing"? The answer is that that will give me joy.

What Makes Your Soul Sing?

If you are in the same situation, one way of discovering this is to find out what makes you sad. Are you sad because of

  • Emptiness
  • Being dismissed or disregarded
  • Lack of respect

  • Boredom

Follow the pattern of these feelings or circumstances and decipher what needs to change. Where did I go wrong? Ask yourself. Where did others go wrong? How can you rectify these errors or shortcomings? Replace the missing pieces with joy, and when you do so, be guided by your core values.
