Preparing for IELTS

April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 174

Are you looking for a review class for IELTS? If you do not know what IELTS is, it is an English proficiency examination and directly translates as International English Language Testing System also known as International English Language Testing Services. It is an exam that is usually required when you are migrating to Canada, New Zealand or Australia. In other cases it is needed when somebody is planning to enroll in an English speaking university or college and his or her first language is not English. IELTS is very similar to TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) as the latter is what is required by North American universities or colleges if you wish to study there. IELTS is managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL examination, the British council and IDP Education Australia.

If you are reviewing for IELTS, you must know that there are four main exams; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Try not to focus on just one of your strengths or weakness because all of them count in getting a good score. For example, if you feel you are already good in writing, you end up just reviewing for the others and totally neglect writing. If you do something like this, that one thing you did not review for might just be the reason you will get a low score. So manage your review time well and make sure you study in all of the 4. It is all right to focus on your weakest but it is also not advisable to skip reviewing to what you think is your strongest.

When preparing for IELTS, you can also watch British movies so that you can be familiar with the accent. The British English is very different from the American English so make sure you also practice your pronunciation of words well. Although speaking with an accent or not will not really affect your speaking score, it is very important for your listening exam. In the speaking exam, what is more important is that you can be understood by the examiner, so try to keep your topic simple and try talking about something you like or you are passionate with. Reading an English book or article will also help you to prepare. This will also assist you in knowing English words and will also help you in writing because you can see how sentences are structured. Try reading out loud so that you can practice your speaking as well. Try to relax your jaw, your lips and your tongue so that you will not have a difficult time speaking. Stretch your jaw and open your mouth so you can relax and you can avoid stuttering. Do this as often as you can in private.

IELTS review is also being offered in a lot of English language schools so try to also look for one and enroll right away. You should not take this lightly as this really counts in any important thing you want to apply for. So make sure that the school you are going to enroll in is accredited by the Education department.

Looking for a good IELTS review in Manila, Philippines? Make sure you check the school's references and look for student testimonials. Double checking the accreditation of the English school in the Philippines will also ensure the quality of the education you will be paying for.
