Actually, laying sod is something that an individual should enjoy bearing in mind the awesome results you are going to have sooner. You should be interested by this marvelous project of laying sod since you not only improve the way the land looks, but also take care of the environment by preventing soil erosion. One can lay sod during free time mainly during weekends since it takes some time. I believe you should be laying sod for fun and turning the world green in order to reduce the high rates of environmental degradation.

There are several steps involved in the process of laying sod. At the point of following these steps, you will make your project a success. All steps are essential and one has to pass through each so as to achieve your desired outcome and make your project fabulous. They are as follows:

a) Clear the land. This involves taking out all old materials which include plants, roots, rocks and any foreign materials. The land should be left bear and good to go for the next step. The most appropriate method of doing this is by digging the land using a flat shovel or a piece of heavy machinery to get the roots. Since the ground is loose at this time, It is the most appropriate time to install a sprinkler system. Pipes should be buried deepest at 6 inches.

b) Preparing the soil to be in the right condition. This involves using gypsum where soil has lots of clay so as to break it. Moreover, you may decide to add your soil fertility. You can add manure or purchase some top soil to put on top of your existing soil. Ensure you have good water trenches at the edges of your lawn so as to avoid water logging during rainy seasons. Level the land and add any special fertilizers if need be.

c) Sod normally comes in strips which generally are 2 feet wide and 8 feet long. These are not the only measurements as they tend to vary in regard to your supplier. Before laying your sod, ensure that the ground is moist enough. This enhances fast growth rate and prevents formation of air pockets that will automatically result to the death of your sod roots. The lines of the strips of sod should not match up. This results in better growth and prevents any discrepancies. You should use a sharp knife to make a hole in the sod. This ensures that the sprinkler head fits through. The best weather to plant your sod is on a hot and dry day.

d) This being the final step, it is most crucial. It involves a sod roller. It gets rid of any air pockets ensuring good contact between sod roots and the soil.

You now will be having a nicely completed sod lawn. Watering it is your daily job to prevent wilting. This depends on weather conditions. Laying sod is the most appropriate way of transforming your lawn from the old looking one to one with life, beautiful and shunning one. I believe you now have the appropriate layout methods to lay your sod.
