Top 3 Summer Lawn Care Tips

June 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 177

When the days become longer and the sun shines brighter, you know it's finally summer time. But with the joy of the summer season comes some extra work for your lawn. Hopefully you had the chance to prepare your lawn for the summer during the spring months so that your work is more maintenance related now. No matter what stage your lawn is in, there are three tips to create a healthy looking lawn all summer long.

Water less frequently

The first tip has to do with watering your lawn. Whether you have an irrigation system in place or if you are watering on your own, it is important to know the best practices. Watering your lawn infrequently, but deeply is the best method. A good watering to make sure that the water penetrates the deep soil will help to maintain a healthy looking lot. But it is very important not to over water by watering too often. This will create moist conditions in which fungus can grow, weeds can spread, and you may end up with burnt grass from the sunlight. Waiting for the lawn and soil to completely dry out is the best way to ensure its beauty.

Mow at a higher setting

Another great tip to keep your lawn in top summer shape is to mow your grass frequently at a higher mow setting. Many say that three inches is a perfect grass height. You will help to prevent the spread of weeds by the frequent mowing and by keeping the grass taller, the weeds will have less sunlight exposure, which will prevent them from spreading. Also, your lawn will look more lush and full if it is not cut down to the shortest setting on the mower.

Prevent lawn pests

This tip is a little harder for some homeowners to control. Lawn pests include animals, insects, fungus, weeds, or anything else that causes damage to your lawn. By following the correct lawn care tips throughout the year (spring, summer, and fall) you will be automatically helping to prevent any pests from trying to take over. But it is possible that despite your efforts to care for your lawn, a mole, or a dandelion seed takes root and quickly leaves you with a lawn that is less than ideal. If this happens, your best bet is to call in the professionals in lawn care near you. They will have the knowledge and the expertise to remedy which ever pest is trying to cause damage and destruction.
