How to Reduce the Noise Level in Your Home in Three Steps

April 15, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 111

Your home is your castle, a place where you should be able to relax and unwind. Home is a wonderful place to get some R&R, but unless you live in a remote area away from the sounds of passing cars, planes and trains, you probably have some noise pollution problems. But don't worry you don't have to move out to the country! There are several alternatives that can dramatically reduce the amount of noise pollution you hear in your home and backyard while adding to the beauty and value of your property.

Install Acoustic Fence Panels

The type of fencing or paneling that you use around the perimeter of your home can be utilized to enhance not only the privacy of your yard, but also the level of sound reduction. The materials that are used in most acoustic fencing are graded and certified to reduce the amount of noise pollution by up to 28 decibel. Some of these common materials are wood, metal, plastic, vinyl, and even concrete.

Residential areas and gated communities have been utilizing these methods of sound reduction for years due to their ability to fit into the style and colour scheme of any community while still eliminating unwanted noise from the surroundings. There are different heights and styles to choose from so you don't have to trade your beautiful scenic view for sound reduction. If chosen carefully, your new acoustic fence panel will not only eliminate sound pollution, but also provide a beautiful backdrop for you property line and vegetation.

Using Hedges around the Perimeter Of Your Property

Another excellent way to reduce noise pollution while contributing to the beauty of your backyard sanctuary is to plant hedges or trees around the edges of your garden. While this is not as effective as an actual panel fence, it can still help reduce the amount of noise in your yard. An additional benefit of using foliage and trees is that they will also provide a wind break and reduce the amount of dust and dirt in your home. Be sure to consider growth times, maintenance level, and your climate when choosing the appropriate plants for your home.

Techniques You Can Use Inside the House

If you are in an apartment or renting a home and cannot make drastic changes to the outside area, don't worry. There are still plenty of things you can do inside to reduce the amount of outdoor noise that reverberates through your home. Place thick rugs and heavy drapes throughout your home. These materials rest upon the surfaces of your home and act as a small noise reflecting system. Pay extra attention to your living room and bedroom since these are the rooms where you will really want to kick back and relax.

So there you have it, three simple solutions to reducing the noise pollution in your home. Don't spend another sleepless night tortured by intrusive noises, take action today and reclaim your sanctuary.
