Living Our Dream Of Country Life In Central Texas - "Top of the Hill Country"

April 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 105

This morning I woke up to the grim realization that yet another birthday had broadsided me. It couldn't be possible that another year had passed by so quickly. As I lay there, I became aware of the sights and sounds of the countryside coming alive. Perched on the gate outside my bedroom window a bluebird happily chirped. A newborn black-baldy calf nestled against its mama for warmth. One of our barn cats was meowing at the front door in anticipation of breakfast. I pulled the covers over my head still reluctant to get up and face the day. Then the sunlight streaming in the window made it impossible to ignore the fact that it was time to get up and embrace the day. As I lowered the covers, I saw the brilliant sunrise. Beautiful shades of pink and orange were reflected in the few clouds on the horizon. I then began to reflect on my good fortune to be waking up in such a perfect place.

Instead of greeting a day filled with the noise of bumper-to-bumper traffic, blaring sirens, honking horns and a myriad of other noises we daily deal with in the city I suddenly realized that I had momentarily taken for granted my good luck to be waking up in just the place I wanted to be - the beautiful central Texas land of Hamilton County. All of a sudden, everything was right with the world and I was excited to get up and enjoy my day.

Whenever my husband and I decided to start looking at central Texas land for sale, we began our search in the Texas ranch land area of Bosque County, Texas' "Top of The Hill Country". A friend owned a ranch near Cranfills Gap (a quaint little Norwegian town), and we had thoroughly enjoyed our visits there. We quickly found our perfect 40-acre getaway in the country and for two years made regular weekend visits. Around mid-afternoon every Sunday, we would become depressed because we knew we had to leave to head back to our home and work in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. Then, we decided we wanted more land and decided to make a permanent move to the country. We soon found a ranch that satisfied our dreams and have now lived here since 2001.

I realize that we have no control over getting older, but we can choose where we want to live as this happens. We chose to live in a place where we can slow down and enjoy the God-given gifts that nature has to offer, and our little piece of central Texas ranch land fits the bill.

Think about it... if your job is computer oriented, you can work from anywhere there's high-speed internet, including the country. Technology has finally brought high-speed internet to remote locations, and our home is one of them.

If the country lifestyle appeals to you, visit and we can help you find your dream.
