A Bittersweet Goodbye to the Ranch

April 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 141

As a central Texas farm & ranch real estate professional and ranch owner myself, I have the pleasure of being exposed to some of the most stunning ranch land, breathtaking homes and wonderful folks in the entire state. I have a bad habit of falling in love with many of the places I see and wish I could buy them all. I can fully understand why it's so hard for long-time farm and ranch owners to say goodbye to the place they've called home and grown to love.

One of our newer listings, located not far from the Crawford, Texas ranch of George W. and Laura Bush, took my breath away. At the entryway and beyond, I was greeted by a sea of blue. There were Bluebonnets as far as the eye could see nestled in the shade of the plentiful hardwoods and decorating the open fields and pastures with their vibrant color. The State Flower of Texas only enhanced the beauty of an already beautiful ranch. From the charming ranch style home overlooking a valley of blue to the huge pond in the center of the property surrounded by a variety of hardwoods, it was "love at first sight".

Another of our listings, a charming ranch located not far from Meridian State Park near the historic Norwegian town of Cranfills Gap, stole my heart. The owners were reluctant to sell because they had put in a lot of love and time in planting trees and making many other environmental improvements. They were afraid someone might want to clear them out in order to enhance their views or to plant crops. It upset them to think that this was a possibility. They knew they couldn't prevent this from happening, but the idea saddened them nevertheless.

Farm & ranch properties are unique and always have something you'll love. The homes and settings are always different; you can find beauty in each one. Some of the homes are large, modern ranch homes, and some are small, cozy, quaint little farmhouses with a charm of their own. Depending on your preference there is sure to be something that appeals to you.

Being a "people person", I have a habit of getting personally attached to our clients. I have met some wonderful folks who have decided to sell their farms or ranches. In some cases, they're excited and ready for a change. In others, they're getting older and need to downsize as the workload becomes burdensome. Some just want to move closer to children, grandchildren or other family members. It pulls at my heartstrings to see the sadness in the eyes of the ones who don't want to sell but, for whatever reason, have to. It's very hard for them to say goodbye to a place that has been the center of their lives for many years. Many memories have been made during their years of life on their beloved farm or ranch; they're not only leaving a place they love but also leaving precious memories behind. A big part of their lives is about to be a "thing of the past".

I work very hard to help make this transition as easy as possible. The day their ranch sells is a bittersweet one. I'm happy that they've sold their place but sad to see them go. These transactions are not only rewarding, but they are also learning experiences for whenever the time comes for me to move on. In the meantime, I am enjoying creating memories of my own through encounters with others. As a ranch owner, I will someday be in their shoes. I hope that my experiences with these fine people will equip me some day down the road to cope with my own bittersweet goodbye.

After years of rewarding country life and hard work, maybe the time has come to slow down. You made an excellent choice investing both time and money in your central Texas farm or ranch. Now it's time to reap the benefits. The "golden years" have caught up with you, and you might feel the need to be near family. You may now want the conveniences of town at hand. If this is the case, please visit our website listed above... we can help you sell.
