Questions At A Job Interview - Why Should We Hire You?

April 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 238

Questions at a job interview tend to stress out most job seekers. And even though interview questions are easy to find for free all over the internet and in any interview book at the library, the questions are not the problem. The answers are.

And most job seekers don't have the faintest clue how to go about answering them including one of the most common questions "why should we hire you?"

Job interview questions are my area of specialty and I teach a very simple formula for answering questions at the interview. Here how it works for this closing question: "why should we hire you":

Step 1 - Use this final opportunity in the interview to provide the top 3 reasons why you are the best person for the job. This answer should be a short 3 minute summary of your top skills, achievements and reasons why you and only you are the right person for this job. Organize your answer into #1, #2 and #3 and make sure they are compelling reasons to motivate the Hiring Manager to say yes!

Step 2 - The reasons you provide at the end of the interview will be the very last thing they hear from you. It's critical that the what you mention directly address all their needs. Make sure you focus on your top 3 strengths that they absolutely need for the role and will help them achieve their goals. This is the time to step up your game and tell them exactly why you have the skills to do the job, what you bring to the table and most importantly, what you can do for them once they hire you for the job.

Step 3 - Be sure to provide an example that summarizes why you deserve to be their next hired employee. Once you have summarized your key strengths and achievements, be sure to leave them with that feeling of "we have to have her" by stating exactly what you plan to accomplish if they hired you immediately.

As a former HR Manager, I personally liked hearing statements like "when you hire me, I will make it my top priority to... (insert top issue for them)...just like I did at my last job" and finish off by addressing their #1 concern.

Questions at a job interview like "why should we hire you" don't have to be complicated once you follow this simple formula.
