Job Interview Tips - 3 Ways To Release Your Anxiety

April 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 151

Job interviews are stressful for many reasons and it is perfectly normal to feel anxious before an interview. However, the key to successful interviewing is to create a relaxed attitude that allows you to release anxiety and perform at your best.

The most important thing you can do before your job interview is to kill the worry habit. Most people tend to worry about the job interview. This only diminishes enthusiasm and creates negative energy prior to the job interview.

When you worry, you picture an undesirable future outcome vividly in your imagination. You keep dwelling on it, thinking about it. You make it a possibility. You play with the idea that it might happen.

The constant repetition and thinking in terms of possibilities makes the end result real to you. After a while, all the appropriate emotions are automatically generated - fear, anxiety, discouragement. All for the result you do not want.

Here are some tips and relaxation techniques to release some of that negative energy and eliminate the anxiety that can sabotage you.

Number one. Consciously "let go" of your muscles. Relax your body. Sit or lie down. Get comfortable. Pay attention to each muscle group and relax. Start at your head and work your way down. Stop frowning. Relax your forehead. Release your shoulders, arms and legs.

Number two. You have to "let go" in your mind. Relax in your mind. Close your eyes. See yourself lying down on a bed. Picture each part of your body sinking into the bed because each body part is so heavy, as if you are made of steel. Every part of your body should feel so heavy and sink down into the bed or chair.

Number three. Pick a peaceful place you can go to in your mind. Choose a relaxing and pleasant scene from your past. And take a trip back to this place in your mind. Perhaps at a mountain lake. Or a beach. Or peaceful at home. Pay attention to the details in the environment. Hear the sound of the waves. The sound of the birds. The wind blowing in the trees. Feel the warm relaxing sun. "Hang out" in your peaceful place for 15 minutes a day leading up to your interview.

Practice relaxation techniques to get to a relaxed condition when you mind and body are ideally ready to accept new ideas. Then in your most relaxed state, prepare for your job interview with positive relaxed energy that propels you to success.

Most people don't get excited about interviews. But one of the selling points for all Hiring Managers is the enthusiasm and passion that a candidate has when they walk in through the door.

Use these simple strategies to eliminate anxiety and develop the kind of enthusiasm that really shines through in your job interview.
