Job Interview Questions - The Key To Answer "Describe Your Style of Work"

April 09, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 144

Job interview questions where you are asked to "describe your style of work" are designed to get a sense of what you are like to work with. The Hiring Managers only have a limited amount of time in the job interview to get a feel for what you have to offer but also what you are like to work with.

These types of job interview questions give the interviewer a preview of what you are actually like once they hire you for the job. The key here is to understand what they are looking for and match what you have to offer to meet their expectations.

Here are a couple of tips you can use to answer this question and stand out as the best candidate for the job:

Tip #1 - Be sure you have reviewed the job description thoroughly so you know exactly what they are looking for. You want to make sure that the style of work that you are describing actually fits the environment they are offering.

Tip #2 - Once you understand what type of working environment they offer, make a list of what you are looking for in your ideal job. Then match up your list with their requirements and see where there is a fit. These are the key characteristics you want to focus on in the job interview.

For example, if it's a fast-paced environment with little supervision, you would describe your style of work as "I really enjoy autonomy in my job and the flexibility to work with minimal supervision...".

This answer will only work for you if it is a match with the job description so be sure to have a good understanding of the work environment first.

Tip #3 - Be ready to provide them with at least one example that demonstrates your style of work. For example, if you say you work well in a team environment, have an example ready of a time when you worked in a team to accomplish a major goal. Giving a concrete example and telling a story is the best way to show what you are capable of doing in the job.

Job interview questions are designed to understand who you are as a person. Your answers to these questions must be strategic so you always paint a picture for them as to why you are a great match for the job and also a perfect fit.
