How to Make Best Impression on an Interview

February 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 171

We have all seen the reports; millions of Americans are still without jobs. Though the rates are getting better, it is still increasingly difficult to get your dream job in today's society. Credentials are no longer the only thing that will get you a job. Interviewers are looking for people to excel in a multitude of areas and are looking for candidates that really stand out. If you are having trouble getting a job but you have the experience that is needed, then there may be other things that you need to look at. This article will take a look at some of the things that you can do to improve your interviews and impress the interviewer. Not all of these tips will work in every situation, but it is good to know all things that you can do.

Facial expressions are some of the most important non verbal communication skills that you can master. Make sure you are smiling as soon as you walk in the door. You never know who is watching you. When you greet your interviewer make sure you shake their hand, smile, and maintain eye contact. If your eye starts to wander while you are in an interview they will think you are not interested.

Make sure you are dressed appropriately. Even if the position says that the company is casual, you do not want to show up in jeans. You do not necessarily need your whole suit, but you need to put forth the effort and show that you care about your appearance. Women, do not wear anything too tight, too low cut, or too short. Be professional.

Make sure you know about the company and position that you are applying for. Doing your research, will impress the interviewer and may even help you ask more in depth questions because you will have a better understanding of the overall company.

Make sure you show up early. Nothing is more embarrassing than showing up late. Remember you are the one that wants the job, and they are taking time out of their day to meet with you. That is something that they do not have to do. So make sure you are early and they know that you are eager for the position.

Make sure you can articulate your past experience. Also be prepared to discuss anything that could be alarming on your resume. Have you switched jobs a few times in the last year? Be confident and explain to them the reasons so that they do not think you are a flake.

Listen to what they tell you about the position and ask them meaningful questions. Ask about their insurance and benefits. Ask about the goals of the company. Ask questions that make you seem interested in the company genuinely. Also, if you think that the interview went really well, do not be afraid to ask what the next steps are. It will make you sound confident. If however, it is not going well, I would not ask these things.

Just remember, be confident and smile.
