Maintenance Advice You Should Know Before You Buy Water Fountains

June 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 286

Indoor water walls are a nice touch to a home's interiors. But they come with a number of problems. Aside from the fact that homeowners will incur higher electricity bills with constant use, they will also have to deal with several maintenance obligations. You can't leave the water fountains unattended. If you do, they will collect dust, promote algae growth, become nesting grounds for infectious insects, and eventually begin to smell like a swamp. As a home décor, you'd want your fountains to retain their elegant and refreshing nature. You can only do that if you pursue these cleaning and upkeep tips after you buy water fountains.

1. Make sure that the water you use for the fountain is distilled. Its pure constitution ensures that pumps are not infiltrated and ruined by sediments. Yes, they are a bit expensive. But if you use ordinary tap water, you might have to clean the pumps and filters more frequently. Mineral deposits will build up in your fountain, and cause milky discoloration of the water and early deterioration of fountain hardware. If by chance, distilled is not an option, go for a well-filtered alternative. That way, the disadvantages will be minimized.

2. Always see to it that you maintain the reservoir's prescribed water level. That way, you don't get important parts dried up, malfunctioning, and worn out. Usually, the surface area, as well as the length of usage, will be utilized to determine the frequency of this task. But be careful about the humidity and location in relation to sunlight, because they may exacerbate water loss.

3. Uphold a periodic cleaning schedule for your indoor water walls. At the very least, it should be once a month. This should keep it looking new and performing optimally. All you really need to keep the front end and backend squeaky clean is the usual household cleanser and a piece of dry cloth or a soft brush. If you want to stick to organic substances, vinegar would make a great alternative cleaner. Drain the fountain with a water vacuum, and clean each part you can disassemble, before you put them back together for refilling. Remember, you don't have to scrub abrasively or use acids to take out stains from fountains. You can do so with light treatments.

4. Pay attention to the pump's condition. If it's dead, you can't put the water fountain you bought to good use. Take note that they will have to be periodically replaced to keep the device going. Typically, if you have a smaller pump, it will have a faster expiration. But then again, this is not a rule set in stone, and it may be modified according to frequency of use and the application proper maintenance practices. It is important to note though, that manufacturer warranties often just last for 90 days, so one can reasonably assume that noticeable performance changes will come up after that. Pumps are easy to take out and install. Thus, there would be no need for a technician's intervention. Just remember to buy the right sized pump, so you don't end up with a wasted investment.
