What Are The Effects Of Stings Of Wasps

May 07, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 154

Wasps are unique insects as they function as nature's own natural controller on the population of other pest insects. Farmers make use of the natural trait of wasps to use them to prey on other insects while at the same time cause very minimal effects to the crops. However, even though wasps have a lot of positive impact in the population control of the insect world, wasps can also do some harm on humans.

The population of wasps normally proliferates during the summer season and during this time of the year the public is warned to be cautious about the possible risks associated with wasp stings. Wasp stings are known to be fatal because it can cause anaphylactic shock on the victim. Anaphylactic shock is the body's severe allergic response to an allergen, and wasp stings leave behind chemicals that can trigger such systemic allergic reactions even to people who don't know they have any allergies.

The stings of wasps is very harmful that stings on the mouth, neck and face can put the person's life in danger more so if the victim experienced multiple wasps stings which is considered as a medical emergency and needs to have urgent treatment. The venom inside the wasp's stinger is responsible for the allergic response created by the body. The initial symptoms include localized pain, redness and itchiness which will subside once the affect area heals. Home remedies for wasp stings include the application of baking soda, washing the area with mild soap and water, and meat tenderizer. It's important that the victim won't scratch the affected skin.

During the summer months is when the yellow and black wasps are most active. They can be found feasting on the left over food and in garbage cans. When humans accidentally disrupted their location, wasps normally react by stinging the intruder. Usually the stinger of the wasp doesn't get dislodged but this gives the wasps the ability to sting the victim multiple times. But in some cases the stinger of the wasp gets dislodged and lodge into the skin of the victim. This results to longer healing until the entire stinger is taken out from the skin. When removing a dislodged stinger, extreme care is needed so that you don't squeeze out more venom from the stinger nor push it deeper into the skin. It is safer if you will have a trained individual to remove the dislodged stinger.

Medical experts recommend that people should try to avoid having a close contact with wasps and be aware of their habitat. If you have them on your property, the smart thing to do is hire a wasp exterminator quickly. It is safer if you can leave the area where the wasps are present and never try to attack the wasps. Be sure that you seek medical attention if you felt any signs of allergic reactions after a wasp sting.
