Entrepreneurs, Capitalists, and Business People Fear Change and Innovation - No, That's Simply BS

June 21, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 178

Not long ago, I actually had someone call me a Luddite, and you know that means someone who is afraid of technology. Of course, I'm hardly afraid of technology, but I am prudent with which personal technologies I use, as I know the ramifications. Interestingly enough, I never considered it to be a wise thing to spend countless hours blogging to help one's small business.

It didn't make sense to me, and for the amount of time spent, I didn't see how it could bring in enough new clients to make it worthwhile. Okay so, let's talk about this for second shall we, because as I was explaining this to an online marketer who was trying to get me to buy a website, and set up a blog, they told me I was afraid of change. That was ludicrous, I was just worried that I would be wasting my time, it turns out I was right, most small business owners that do this, just obligate themselves to many hours a week off into the future with little to show for it.

There is a new interesting book out by Andrew Bernstein titled; "Capitalists Who Fear Change" which is an interesting title indeed. There was a book review on Laissez-Faire Books by Jeffrey Tucker posted on June 19, 2012 about this book, which was also interesting. Now then, although I have not read the book, generally I usually challenge this line of thinking, because often those who make the statement don't have their technological changes market ready yet, or they want to make a change they think will be great, but they haven't thought through all the ramifications from a profit perspective - thus, it might be those who ridicule the capitalists who are truly living in the ignorance of wishful la la land.

I'd love to find someone in the know who might someday give me a decent debate me on this, as I get tired of bad examples and academics who've never run a business or had to make a payroll claiming that they know what will work in the market-place better than those who are making money doing it. Okay, so let me give you another for instance. When I tell people that I don't believe in all of this alternative energy technology, it's because I've studied it, not because I'm afraid of change.

Just because someone is touting some new strategy to create energy, does not mean that that strategy is better than what we are currently using, or that it will be less expensive or more efficient. In the case of solar technology and wind turbine technology, they just can't compete because the technology isn't there yet. It's not that I am a capitalist who is afraid of change because as soon as someone can produce a super duper efficient solar cell, or some new form of energy generation that blows everything else out of the water I will switch.

Sometimes I think that entrepreneurs and capitalists who are doing what works are often too quickly labeled as Luddites, or somehow afraid of change. They are not, and the most successful entrepreneurs have always led in their own industry or subsector in innovating. So I thought you should know. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this, and you may contact me if you're up for further discussion.
