Future Road to Carbon Free Transportation

The DOE recently put out a bid for any company that could fully demonstrate a "zero emissions" transportation prototype, and if so, they'd fund further R&D on the project. Yes, that would be terrific indeed, not only because the darn thing wouldn't pollute, but because it wouldn't be using expensive fuel either, well theoretically anyway. What might propel such a vehicle? Well, does it matter? I mean we are talking "AND" zero emissions right? Well, yes and no. Okay so, let's discuss this shall we?

You see, if something was an electric vehicle and running on electricity, it would actually be using electricity from the grid, and therefore there would be at least some emissions from the power plant. Unless the power plant was all solar, wind power, geothermal, ocean wave, or nuclear, but that's not really what they were looking for, so in this case, at least with this particular bid, electric vehicles wouldn't count, and if electric vehicles don't count then electric hybrids don't count either. Well, that certainly leaves a large number of concepts out of the equation, so what other crazy ideas might we come up with?

How about hydrogen power? Okay, but where do you get the hydrogen from? It takes energy to get hydrogen from other compounds, and where are you getting energy from - are you beginning to see the challenges with alternative energy, and why we need to put our thinking caps on, and why many of the schemes that people have come up with are not sufficient, and will not work the way we wish them to, or solve the problems, even the pretend problems such as CO2 emissions (global warming), that we are trying to solve.

In other words, the DOE is saying bring it on, show us, enough conspiracy theories, if you have such a technology, working on building a prototype, or demonstrate to us that you have what it takes to make this happen, then we will fund it with the taxpayers money. So far, there aren't any takers, and we don't have any magic solution or magic bullets for this. So far, we funded a number of things which have not exactly panned out, and although they were high risk, high reward, we still aren't there yet. When we are talking about zero emissions, we are talking about zilch, nada, nothing, period.

If you have such a technology, you may shoot me an e-mail, and we will take a look at it at our think tank, and endorse it if necessary, if we find value in your scheme. Everyone's looking for the same thing, so if you have it, bring it forward. Please think on this and consider it.
