Selecting Home Plans: Common Visualization Methods

February 01, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 157

When you're choosing home plans, it helps to have a variety of visualization tools at your disposal. Today, house plans are visualized and communicated through several different types of two-dimensional plans; they may also be depicted in three dimensions as a scale model of the home.

This article lists the visualization tools recommended for homeowners. First, however, let's consider the advantages to having many different visualization tools at your fingertips as you shop floor plans:

Benefits of Varied Visualization Tools When Choosing House Plans

1. Improved homeowner experience. When you're imagining your dream house, it helps to have plenty of visualization methods. Homebuyers will be more satisfied with the final outcome if they can make design adjustments before construction begins, and they are more empowered to do this when they can visualize the floor plans themselves.

2. Business uptick for developers. Home developers know consumers don't all think alike; some are visual learners, while others need a verbal description of a home's layout. Having multiple visualization methods makes it easier for developers to convey their ideas - and therefore easier to sell homes.

3. Design innovation. Even those who deal with blueprints all day long benefit from the obtainment of a new visualization tool. Architects who can see their designs in multiple formats will be more likely to come up with unusual, innovative home plans.

4. Fewer mistakes. Many different people are involved in manifesting a set of house plans into a real building. Contractors, plumbers, electricians and architects need quick access to home plans so as to understand their own duties. Having different visualization formats makes misunderstanding less likely. This means less money is wasted on fixing mistakes.

Visualizing Home Plans: 3D models and other Schematics

To gain these and other advantages, we suggest that homeowners look for the following visualization tools when selecting home plans:

Floor Plans. These indicate where exterior and interior walls will be placed. They also show the size of doors and windows, as well as electrical information and other interior design details.

Foundation plan. A foundation plan communicates crucial data about the base of the home. This may include a basement, crawl space or just a concrete slab. Weight-bearing data, such as basic dimensions, footings, concrete walls, lode-bearing walls and support beams, is included in a foundation plan.

Exterior elevations plan. This document depicts the front, rear and sides of the home, showcasing exterior materials.

Roof plan. A roof plan shows everything your builder will require to create a stalwart roof. Downspouts, vents, cutters and roof framing instructions are indicated in roof plans, which also include information on the home's structural engineering.

3D Model. 3D models of house plans immediately communicate the appearance of the home. Until recently, it was not cost-effective for architects to create 3D models for the average homeowner. However, 3D printing of house plans allows anyone to obtain a scale model of their home, including true colors, architectural details and even labels for plumbing and electrical work. Typically, scale models of homes are built in several pieces. This allows different sections of the home to be lifted away when an interior view is required.

Interior design schematics. These highlight certain key areas within the home. For instance, if you're a consummate chef, a schematic of the stove and preparation area can give you the level of detail demanded by your passion for cuisine.

When building a home, it is important your house plans contain more then just the design, it should include all of the necessary information to build your home. Visit to be sure you are receiving the complete package.
