The Easy Way to Clean Rentals

There are 3 types of cleaning that I want to give you constructive ideas on. I have had over 14 years experience in home cleaning and also train our Franchisees on how to be consistently finishing quality cleans.

For tenants there are generally 3 types of cleaning to consider. There are 2 that are contractually required and one is an option.

A moving or bond cleanInspection clean while rentingRegular house/apartment clean

While you are renting, your rental agreement will generally request an occasional inspection by a landlord or a rental agency. Within reason your home will need to be tidy and clean. Professionals can assist in this area, however one way in which you can be sure that your home is always ready for an inspection is to maintain at least a fortnightly clean for yourself. This is where a lot of tenants let themselves down. If all else fails you can always fall back onto a professional. Just Google or check the Yellow pages to find a house cleaner in your area.

Do you want to clean your rental yourself?

Here is a cleaning order you can use, which has proven not only very effective, but also fast because of its frequency (fortnightly). It provides an organized approach for you.

So many people from the outset want to spray and wipe everything. Well from my experience there are two problems. One is that moisture can create more work and the second is that the clean usually leaves unwanted streaks and marks.

So, what is the secret -

Clean from the top downClean dry first before wetting any areaDo all your dusting first from the "top down" by removing cobwebs and dust off curtain rods etc. Then dust the furnishings, pictures, wooden venetian blinds etc.

What this achieve is get all the dust onto your cleaning tools dry and helps to keep the dust out of the air (always helpful if you have allergy). In a very short period of time any excess dust will fall to the floor so it can be cleaned up last when the floors are cleaned.

Once, the above is done, you can then spray areas that require moisture and clean. I use a chamois to wipe the moisture up, however you can use micro clothes also. The key to effective cleaning is to keep your cleaning chamois /cloths continually rinsed clean during the process. So far we have spoken off dusting and cleaning. The real secret is the finishing of the clean so there are no streaks left for example, on tiles, counter tops, mirrors etc.

If you are concerned with the health of the planet you could use vinegar, some may use methylated spirits and I used a light window cleaner product with an effective drying agent in it. This product has always given me good results. The other important issue is that your chamois/cloths must always be rinsed clean.

Here is a regular cleaning order that I use and it may help to keep the your clean in control as well.

cobweb and dusting, cupboard fronts, spot walls and light switcheskitchen surfaces, oven/fridge/dishwasher doorsbathroom(s) and toilet(s), laundryvacuum upholstery, vacuum floorsclean and wash hard floors

Of course there is a lot more information and training required to become an organized and a quality cleaner, however I trust the above is of assistance to you.

An Idea -To the Landlord, you can build into your rental package "cleaning" which will be a way of ensuring that your property is always maintain at its best.
