Start Your Own Home Staging Business

May 02, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 157

Home staging has become one of the most sought after at home businesses within the USA today. If you have a passion for interior design than home staging may be the right business for you. As more and more people put their houses on the market they are beginning to have a lot of competition and therefore are having issues getting the dollar amount they deserve for their homes; this is where home staging becomes an essential aspect of homes sales today. Within this article we will help you learn how to start a home staging business and hopefully see great success as your own boss!

First and foremost you will want to conduct a great deal of research before plunging into an industry you are not 100% familiar with. Although you may have an idea as to what home staging is, it is important to get thorough information on the industry from home stagers already working in the business. This will help you see how much, if any, you need to expand your interior decorating knowledge as well as exterior design knowledge. A bit of research can help you learn exactly what is expected by a professional home stager, the techniques that work for quick sales and of course how to work with different sized homes.

Just as with any business marketing and networking is a major part of this business. The more you are able to get to know the real estate agents within your community to better your odds are for success. Generally a home seller does not opt on their own to utilize a home stager this is almost always recommended by their real estate agent. As you can imagine the realtors have their own list of home stagers they trust and enjoy working with and it is your goal to be on one of these lists; it is a sure way to increase your client list.

Once you have a handle on the market it is time to develop your own personal business model. This means identifying what a reasonable price would be for your services (you can of course compare to the home stagers already working for hourly rates), consider what type of homes you want to specialize in such as condos, single family dwellings, town houses, etc. and of course your company name to start. Your overall business plan should include all these things as well as strategies regarding how to get started and where to find your first client. After your first client if you were a success you will find it easier and easier to double your client list.

What's great about the home staging business is you can do this on the side of whatever career you currently have. This allows you to slowly and confidently build your business while still taking in your other income. Once you find success in the home staging business it is up to you whether you want to make this your number one career or not.
