Biggest Home Disasters

April 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 269

When you buy a home you probably think that everything will be sunshine and roses. However, there are things that can occur every day that can cause harm to you and your family. At any given moment disaster can occur in your home and it is important for you to understand what the signs are and prepare your home as much as possible. This article will talk about some of the most common disasters that occur in the home. You won't be able to stop things at all times, but with knowledge you will be better prepared and know what to look for.

One of the most common home disasters we hear about time and again are home fires. These are often the most heart breaking because in most cases they could have been avoided. Cooking is the number one reason for home fires. How many times have you caught something on fire in the kitchen? Without knowing how to put these fires out they can get out of hand. Christmas is supposed to be a happy time and all of those lights add beauty to your home, but they also add a greater risk of fires. Make sure that you keep your tree alive and turn off the lights when you are not going to be home or when you are asleep. Candles are another thing that can lead to a home fire. The important thing here is to also remember to blow out all the flames when you are not at home. Also, never fall asleep with flames burning.

Another problem that happens in a home is the bursting of pipes. Water will expand when it freezes and that expansion will cause your pipes to burst. There are all kinds of different water lines in your home that need to be taken care of. If you live in an area where the cold is commonly a problem this is extremely important. You can prevent frozen pipes by draining your pool water and sprinkle watering systems when it gets cold. Remove your hoses when the temperature starts to drop. You might also talk to someone who can recommend other ways to cover your pipes in winter.

A final problem that can be very harmful is exposure to gas. Natural gas in your home is something that people prefer in their appliances to electric appliances. However, if not taken care of properly these appliances can emit an odorless gas that can kill you. In some situations this gas can also be flammable. You will need to weigh the pros and cons and decide if gas is right for your home. Also talk with gas experts and make sure that you are up to date on all safety information.

All of these things can cause harm to your home. If you find that they have caused harm and you are in a financial bind then you can take out a home equity loan and get the money that you need to pay for the problems. It is always better to take the money out from a home equity so that you can have a little bit more control about you pay it back and when.
