Love Where You Live

February 20, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 89

Your home is a personal reflection of you and your family. Your home environment is your opportunity to share your values, beliefs, interests or hobbies with everyone in your life. It's a wonderful place to surround yourself with things you love, things that inspire you and provide comfort. Design shouldn't be about recreating a picture from a magazine, it's about embracing where you are in life. If you don't love your home then you may be missing the boat on what is possible for your interior and for your life.

First thing first, you have to ask yourself what do you have passion for, believe in or enjoy doing? There is no wrong or right answer for how you go about surrounding yourself with what you like. I find that the more you care about what you want or love, the less home "trends" matter. I hate the question, "what colors are popular this year?" I just cringe inside thinking, the color that matters is the color that you love, not what the marketing team of the color association picked. So whether you have to dig deep or just blurt out what is at the tip of your tongue, when decorating a room start by thinking about what makes you tick. Is it music, sports, animals, pets, puzzles, fashion, birds, motorcycles... etc? Do you have strong values in love, family, military, politics, religion, nature... etc? What is the thing, person or place that makes you feel alive? That should be your starting point for a good décor.

Second, is how you live in your home on a day to day basis. Everyone is different and your home reflects this whether you are choosing to or not. Furniture is basically a tangible necessity for your daily activities such as sleeping, eating, working, or resting. Literally, how you use your furniture can express a lot about a person. Review what inventory you need. How many people live in the home? Who actually uses what rooms and how often do you entertain? Do you have pets, toddlers or teenagers? Do have a special interest that need a specific space all to itself? Do you watch TV while you work? All of these questions reflect how you live and should also determine what you need. Maybe you have a dining room but you don't entertain. Don't waste the space... make it into a room that you can use. Who says you have to have a formal dining room? If you say your mother... then you may need therapy to overcome the fear to disappoint others despite your own happiness. LOL, no seriously why stick to the norms if it doesn't make sense for you?

Once you figure out how to listen to your own inner desires, values and comfort zones than everything will fall into place. You will make decisions with ease and you will become more patient with purchases. You will know when you love something and that is when it's right. People often fill their homes with things and wonder why they become uninterested and unattached to their surroundings. Buy only what you love and if you're eclectic than be eclectic. If you are country, be country. If you are classical, than be classical. A person should never fear loving and expressing who they truly are. The self confidence from knowing who you are will change your life. Expressing and surrounding yourself with those things that support your passions, interests, and values will allow you to love where you live.

If you still need more help than you can hire a professional interior designer to help guide you through the process. To learn more about Tyson Designs go to my website: Thank you and god bless.
