If you are looking for a how to guide on the best way to kill bed bugs well then you are in luck. This article will explain practical ways to get rid of bed bugs in your home. But, before we begin I want to warn you that killing these insects is a very difficult task and has even put the best exterminators to the test.

The first thing that you must do to combat bed bugs is to clean your house from top to bottom. They typically live within a twenty foot radius of there food source, but please clean your entire house bed bugs can and will be hiding. It is best to start the cleaning process in the bedroom, remove all bedding and wash in hot water, hot water will kill them, also wash all of your clothing and put them in plastic bags once they come out of the dryer.

Once you have the bedroom stripped down to the bare bones for cleaning, the best thing that you can do to get rid of of bed bugs in your home is put a mattress cover that is specifically made to protect against bed bugs on your mattress and box spring. I cannot tell you enough about the importance of this step, if there are these pests in your home it is very likely they are living within your mattress or are hidden away in the box spring.

These pests are fantastic at hiding and can hide in very small places. Remember they are about the size of a pencil eraser and while they can be seen with the naked eye, you really have to be looking for them to see them. This means you must clean the every nook and cranny in your house, common places people miss cleaning for them is behind wall trim, outlet covers, cracks in hardwood flooring, and the closet area.

The rule of thumb when cleaning is to wash everything you can in hot water and for hard surfaces use a bed bug spray that will kill adults and eggs on contact. Chemical cleaners will be expensive and if you have small children or pets in your home you will want to be very careful when using poisonous chemicals as to not harm them. Diatomaceous Earth is often recommended when treatments if there are pets or children in the home.

After all of the hard surfaces and everything that can be cleaned in the washing machine has been done you will want to clean the furniture. If you have leather furniture this step will be easier since bed bugs can not crawl through leather you can use a spray on the leather to clean it. If you have upholstered furniture you will want to either buy a steam cleaner or rent one from your local home improvement store. Also, use the steam cleaner on any rugs or carpet flooring in the home. Special attachments for the steam cleaner can be used to clean the upholstered furniture.

I hope you found my article about killing bed bugs useful, remember mattress covers are an essential part of eliminating bed bugs from the home.
