6 Tips Guaranteed To Help You Build Good Family Relationships

April 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 125

Building good family relationships takes time. It is also a lot of work and that is why some people fall short. You have to be willing to invest the time and effort into your family. It takes as much planning and effort at building a successful home as it does building a successful career. Think about the things you have learned on jobs about building a successful team. Would it surprise you to know that these same lessons if applied to your family will make your family a stronger unit?

One of the keys to building this strong team is that everyone on the team needs to feel safe. Safe from ridicule and to know that no matter how trivial it is there is someone who is willing to listen and to care. Knowing that there is always someone who has their back come rain or shine is one of the most awesome feelings of security you can give another member of your family.

Communication is a two way street. We all want our children to listen to us but it seems for some reasons parents do not grant their children this same right. It is okay to let them to talk, to take the time to actually hear them. Children are being bullied but fail to tell their parents about it because they are afraid they will be ridiculed.

Young girls are getting date raped and tell no one. If your child has been able to talk openly and honestly with you about everything then they will feel more comfortable coming to you when things get rough. This is a sign of a good family relationship. Here are a few tips that can help you along these lines and they work well with partners as well.

  • Start by talking about everything (even if it is hard)
  • Listen attentively - make eye contact, do not give the child the impression you would rather be doing something else
  • Children are just learning about emotions and feelings make them at ease talking about theirs by sharing some of your own
  • Be quick with praise and even if what they have told you is cause for chastisement do it with love and respect
  • Hold your peace and your tongue, let them finish what they have to say, ask questions to get at things that are unclear avoid making accusations and passing blame
  • Let them participate in the problem-solving phase and even in the choice of punishment for any wrongdoing.

This sounds like a tall order but if you truly want to build good family relationships you will have to rethink how you approach life and your views of the roles of parents and child dynamics. The aforementioned tips will work with every member of your family including your spouse. Besides some of it is just plain treating others like you want them to treat you. That is what building good family relationshipsis all about, learning better ways to communicate and mutual respect.
