Central Air Conditioners And You

February 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 172

Every once in a while an invention comes along that drastically changes the way we live our lives for the better, making daily tasks easier, faster and more efficient. These include items such as the flush toilet, the elevator, the telephone, the printing press, the personal computer, the automobile. All have made our lives more convenient and have even changed the ways in which we interact with one another.

We live in a society that is quite literally obsessed with technology. We have cultivated its advancement feverishly to the point where a piece of technology, say a cellular phone, is brand new one year then completely obsolete the next. We constantly struggle to keep up and yet every minute of the ride excites us to no end.

One technology, however, that has more or less stayed the same over the years has been the central air conditioner. Nearly everyone on earth knows what these are, and most of us fully understand their importance in the human race. They have made it possible for us to live comfortably in climates that were previously only barely or completely uninhabitable.

Unlike the method of fanning air in an attempt to simulate the effects of wind, air conditioners funnel fresh air into and through an electric condenser that forces heat and moisture out by squeezing the molecules into a denser configuration. The resulting exhaust air is much colder and drier.

It's ability to not only cool but dry out air comes in handy in hot, humid climates such as the American southeast, or really any coastal area near the equator. They make the atmosphere in these swampy, sticky environments much more tolerable, even enjoyable to anyone.

These also make it possible to survive in arid, desert climates. We can now build houses anywhere there is electricity available, and air conditioners will greatly help keep us from over heating and suffering from heat stroke and dehydration.

Air conditioners today come in many forms. You can find compact, window sized units that effectively cool one or two rooms at a time. The flip side of the single sized unit is the giant central air conditioner. The word 'central' in the term refers to its centralized location in the building in terms of the overall ventilation system layout.

Central air conditioner systems pump large volumes of air through the main unit and into a web of carefully designed air ducting to be dispersed throughout the structure as evenly as possible. This system is much more energy efficient for larger buildings than running multiple individual window units.

Anyone who enjoys the power of air conditioners owes the technology a big thanks every time it kicks on. Because without air conditioners, we would be much more restricted, not to mention hot!

I have more reviews and information about central air conditioners at my Web site.
