Indigestion Remedies for Dyspepsia - How Diet Can Help

Indigestion or dyspepsia is an unfortunately common digestive issue these days. Instead of turning to damaging chemical drugs that mask the symptoms, it's important to get to the cause of this health problem. As a result, adopting a sensible diet is one of the primary natural indigestion remedies for dyspepsia.

Why is diet so important?

The reality is that eating too much, eating too quickly, and eating the wrong kinds of food play a big role in feelings of discomfort in the abdomen. All these things overtax the digestive system and make it work much harder.

Over eating or new chewing properly means that the stomach has to produce more acid to try and digest the food. This can lead to there being too much acid in the stomach, known as hyperacidity. When this occurs, people readily turn to antacids and acid blockers as the solution. Yet, this can produce more harm than good, as the acid is needed for the proper absorption of nutrients.

In order to naturally treat indigestion, the first thing you should do is cleanse the digestive system. The best way to do this is to only eat fruit for around five days. For the following 10 days, adopt a restricted diet of foods that are easy to digest, such as lightly steamed vegetables. Fruit intake should also be kept up.

The consumption of fruit is helpful in flushing out undigested food residue and accumulated toxins in the body. This is because they're rich in water.

One of the best fruits for indigestion is lemon, and you can have it with a glass of water. Lemon juice alleviates indigestion by attacking bacteria and other harmful substances in the stomach, thus strengthening it. Interestingly, although the juice is acid in its natural state, it turns alkaline when it's metabolized in the body.

Oranges are also extremely beneficial for indigestion. They 're an excellent source of nutrients in an easy to assimilate form. They also help stimulate the production of digestive fluids. Grapes are a light fruit that help remove heat from the stomach and reduce inflammation. Pineapple is very valuable for indigestion as well, because it contains digestive enzyme bromelain, which helps digest protein.

Other dietary tips to keep in mind to naturally cure indigestion are to never eat and drink together, as the liquid dilutes the digestive juices. Never hurry though a meal, never eat until your stomach is really full (eating little and often is the key), and don't mix too many different kinds of foods together. For example, proteins and carbohydrates, because they require different enzymes for digestion.
