February 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 219

Across the globe, nearly 5 billion people use mobile phones. The mobile phones use the microwave region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum to operate. Recent studies have proven that long-term heavy usage of cell phone is carcinogenic. The effect of its radiation on the health of humans has become a subject of research in very recent times because of massive increases in the usage of mobile phones throughout the world.

On the scale of International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organization has classified cell phone radiation as possibly carcinogenic. There are several other health risks which include infertility, hypersensitivity, increase in stress levels in a person and tumours in the brain and head, to name a few.

The rate at which the human body absorbs radiation is measured by Specific Absorption Rate. In order to regulate the damage cell phone radiation can cause an individual, different countries have put radiation exposure limits on the maximum levels of SAR for modern handsets. These limits vary according to the country in which you are. For example, in the USA, the Federal Communications Commission has set maximum SAR limit of 1.6 W/kg whereas, in Europe, this limit is 2.0 W/kg.

The amount of radiation emitted by mobile phones depends on the model of the handset. Different handsets have different SAR ratings. You can choose the right handset, one that has the minimum rating, to protect yourself from the risks of radiation emitted from mobile phones.
