To Be Or Not To Be

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 171

I begin by quoting, "To be or not to be" which is the opening phrase of a soliloquy in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet. I am not drawing readers' attention on the disagreement of both phrase and speech. On the other hand, how it is reflected in common man's thoughts, and feeling is a matter of concern to all.

It is very interesting and intriguing to deduce its concept within the parameters of a life of a common man. Here, the journey of a man begins with a bang. The arrival of a man, in this world, sets the motion and that progressively continues its journey through the passage of time. The rhythm of life started swaying and surging on a predetermined track. Alas! It doesn't actually follow the path in that manner. In fact, variables affect the rhythm and a different pattern evolves. What are these patterns and who controls them?

The points to ponder are the factors which are affecting this rhythm. What happens and how it starts? The most important aspect of the telltale effect is the love and affection. The propagation of life from infancy stage passes through childhood on a satisfactory note. However, entering into adulthood experiences a choppy sea prior to moving in a dignified manner and matures by old age. The single most effective role is played by love and affection alone.

The crucial period of life is the childhood, where parents sow the character building and personality development seeds. The child will, subsequently, start developing a character of sound foundation to be a prominent reckoning figure. He, then, grows to be well respected human being, and an experienced old person. The rosy picture will later experience a happy life and pronounces life, "To be."

The scenario takes a different turn when the new born feels the lacuna of love and affection. What transpired and conspired with the parents is a matter of grave concern to all. The trauma will leave drastic effects on the child's personality. The subconscious mind will receive deceptive signals, and stores tormented picture of life. The life is, then, passing through topsy-turvy situation disbelieving the favorable tidings of adulthood too.

The adulthood meets the present with vengeance and distrust. The chaotic period continues on disturbed feelings of life reflecting unhappiness and misery. It is this scenario which he would say, "Not to be."

The rock and role model of life are the manifestation of conceptual reality between "To be or not to be." In Hamlet, the Shakespeare character speaks to himself and to the audience, whereas, the real-life character struggles between fate and destiny. The realization of the pragmatic pictures depicts the treatment he meets during his life from infancy until old age. We must draw logical and factual conclusions from the "Hamlet's" stanza, and it goes like this:

"To be, or not to be, that is the question:Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,"

The most desirable and coveted action a human being can take is to stand up against the unjust. He must forcefully and emphatically establish his or her authority in a meaningful way with a firm belief in self. He should not become a mute figure of misery making his and his dependents' life a laughing stock.
