Time Saver Equals Happy Savior

July 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 179

Let me start off by telling you a story... I once met someone who was highly bothered by the fact that they had wasted their time doing something but saw nothing positive come out of it. So, like most people would, he beat himself up over the fact that he won't ever get that time back. But, because of his skewed emotions he didn't realize all he was doing was wasting more time by not doing something more productive. Rather, he was worrying about what he lost instead of what he could have gained. That is just a small example of how people can be in control of their own happiness but instead choose to worry about things and lose their focus and end up being unhappy.

People are under the impression that if they don't evaluate every situation it must mean that don't care about it. This person thought that by being upset about his lost time he was somehow going to fix the problem. However, he was completely unaware of the fact that he was just getting upset and being completely unproductive. Really, all he wanted to do was feel happy just like everyone else is but how can he feel happy if all he feels is the guilt of not being productive enough?

After I realized that this approach wasn't working on him I changed up the figure of speech and went for a different approach. All I wanted to do was help this person be happy. I know exactly what it feels like to be on the "Other Side" so I felt obligated to help him.

I asked him straight, "Do you enjoy laughing?" He answered me quite obnoxiously and said of course, who doesn't enjoy laughing? I told him to think about something funny and he started laughing and smiling. After a few minutes of doing this he caught on to what I have just done. I just allowed him to take control of his sadness and turn it into thoughts of happiness. After we spoke he couldn't stop thanking me. He realized what I had just taught him. There are a few lessons to be learned from this. One, you have full control of how your "happiness level" is ranking on the happy scale. Two, that wasting your time thinking about lost time is completely counterproductive and definitely doesn't help you be happy. Finally, worrying about lost time will make you lose time and won't allow you to use your next moment in a productive manner. It is all about Positive Thinking and having the Positive Attitude to succeed. If you do not have these traits then it is so hard to succeed. Take control of your Happiness.
