How to Increase Your Happiness and Become More Positive

June 29, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 139

Have you ever wondered if there is anything you can do to make yourself feel happier?

You don't have to wait for good things to happen in your life, or for other people to make you happy, because you can actually do some things to create more happiness for yourself. The saying that happiness comes from within has a lot of truth in it. There are several things that various psychological studies have proven will increase your general wellbeing and help you to become more mindful and therefor a happier person. You don't have to go shopping and get into debt or win the lottery because these are all simple things you can incorporate into your life.

A pet is a big commitment but it can give you unconditional love and help you to feel happier. Looking after an animal of any kind can be a great distraction as they rely on your care and attention to keep them healthy. Not everyone is a dog lover but owning a cat or perhaps even a hamster or some fish can be really rewarding. Many studies have shown animal owners are happier and more relaxed in everyday life.

Can you find ways to be less selfish? If you are able to give your time to help someone, do some fundraising or even make a donation of money or goods to charity, not only will you be helping others you will also be helping yourself to feel happier. You will feel proud of your efforts and be doing something rewarding. Helping other people or finding ways to be more giving puts your focus outside of yourself. Taking time out to write letters of gratitude can make your friends feel more valued. Random acts of kindness however big or small are also a good happiness booster both for the giver and the receiver.

Try to become a more positive person and think about the good things that happen to you. Sometimes life can be hard but try not to dwell on problems and difficulties too much. You can work through them or get some help but then concentrate on something positive as well. Perhaps you could try to think of 1 good thing everyday and accepting or organizing more social activities. Becoming more sociable can make you happier.

Take more time to live in the moment and become more mindfull. You might then be surprised to discover that even simple things like noticing a blackbird singing in the morning can boost your feelings of happiness.
