A Variety of Colours of Fruits and Vegetables for Hair Regrowth

Eating a variety of coloured vegetables and fruits on a daily basis can give you all-around health benefits.

Indeed, different hues of fruits and vegetables contain specific beneficial components that are essential to the health of the hair and the body, in general. They are good sources of nutrients that help protect the body against ailments and conditions like hair loss and hair thinning problems.

With that, to get the proper nourishment to help stop hair loss, one must eat vegetables and fruits in different varieties of colours. Intake of these foods will give your body ample amounts of vitamins A, B, C, D and E; and minerals like calcium, potassium and protein to attain thicker, fuller and healthier hair regrowth.

Below are various colours of fruits and vegetables for hair loss treatment and hair regrowth:

Blue and Purple

Blue and purple fruits like blueberries, pomegranates and grapes; and vegetables like eggplants and prunes are rich with nutrients that include lutein, ellagic acid, fibre, vitamin C and quercetin.

Both fruits and vegetables of this colour support retinal health, boost immune system activity, lower cholesterol and support healthy digestion. It also improves calcium and other mineral absorption which are needed by the hair follicles for producing healthier hair.

Green

Green fruits such as avocados and kiwis; and green vegetables such as cabbages, lettuce, barley grass and spinaches contain beta-carotene, fibre, vitamin C, calcium and folate.

Calcium helps strengthen the hair follicles and fights against harmful free radicals that cause damage to the hair strands while folate is an essential vitamin for cell growth and reproduction.

Red

Red fruits like cherries, cranberries and grapes; and vegetables like radish, red pepper and tomatoes contain lycopene, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor and a good anti-oxidant that reduces the overproduction of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp.

Overproduction of DHT is believed to be the main culprit of hair loss in both men and women.

Orange / Yellow

Yellow and orange fruits like papayas, mangoes, apricots and tangerines, as well as vegetables like squash and carrots are rich in nutrients like beta-carotene, lycopene, potassium and vitamin C.

All these nutrients help stop hair loss and encourage hair regrowth. Vitamin C helps improve the condition of the hair follicles and scalp by stimulating proper blood flow and maintaining the health of the capillaries.

White

White vegetables like parsnips, turnips, gingers and onions as well as white fruits like brown pears and dates are rich with nutrients such as SDG (secoisolariciresinol diglucoside) and EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) that help boost the immune system.

EGCG is believed to be helpful in the prevention androgenic alopecia from worsening by inhibiting the activity of the 5-alpha reductase enzymes.

SDG, on the other part, helps treat hair loss and improves hair regrowth by converting into enterolactone, which inhibits the formation of aromatase, androsterone and 5-alpha reductase.
