What Degreasers Are Available for Green Companies?

June 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 168

As a testament to the economic benefits of "going green," a global survey by Tandberg - a subsidiary of Cisco Systems - recently revealed that fifty-three percent of consumers prefer to buy from companies that have a green reputation. Because green Business-to-Consumer (B2C) companies prefer to do business with other green companies, consumer support of green B2C companies can also benefit green Business-to-Business (B2B) companies. Developing a green reputation is easier for some companies than it is for others. Manufacturers that use industrial strength degreasers, for example, can find it difficult to replace a conventional parts washer solvent with an environmentally friendly solvent that offers the same degreasing power, but they are not without options.

A New Breed of Solvents

In years past, industrial strength solvents that lacked Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) were hard to find. In the U.S., this began to change in 1970 when President Richard Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Over the next forty years, EPA regulations for the use of toxic chemicals in the industrial sector became increasingly stringent. Today, many conventional cleaners that companies heavily used thirty years ago are regulated or outlawed.

In some cases, small companies that produce low emissions can use an EPA regulated degreaser without violating emission caps and receiving a fine, but these companies are increasingly going green due to the preference of consumers and businesses to buy from "green businesses."For companies that need to improve their environmental profile by replacing a toxic parts washer solvent, the solutions below are an excellent choice:

MIL-PRF-680 Type II

A MIL-PRF-680 Type II degreaser cleaner for solvent parts washers is an environmentally preferred solution that offers the following benefits:

  • Emits no odor
  • Leaves no residue
  • Contains no water
  • No hazardous ingredients according to the EPA
  • Is largely non-corrosive
  • Has a high flashpoint

These benefits make MIL-PRF-680 Type II an excellent choice on several counts. In addition to protecting parts from rust and chemical corrosion, it also protects workers from exposure to HAPs, overpowering fumes, and unexpected solvent combustion.

Vortex

Vortex citrus cleaner and heavy-duty degreaser is an organic solution that is ideal for cleaning general surfaces and components that are not cleaned in a parts washing system. Like MIL-PRF-680 Type II, Vortex contains no hazardous ingredients according to the EPA. It also offers the benefits below:

  • Contains no petroleum distillates
  • Emits no harmful fumes
  • Is biodegradable

By delivering excellent degreasing power in a biodegradable formulation, Vortex allows companies to implement a heavy-duty degreasing agent without increasing the cost of waste disposal. In addition to removing oil and grease, Vortex can also remove tough accumulations of tar, asphalt, and bitumen.

Conclusion

Environmentally conscious consumers prefer to support companies of the same mindset. For companies in the industrial sector, a lack of environmentally preferred cleaners has made adopting green principles difficult. Today, however, industrial strength, eco friendly cleaners are readily available. If your company needs an environmentally preferred parts washer solvent to replace conventional degreasers, MIL-PRF-680 Type II and Vortex are excellent replacement options.

There are several degreasers available for green companies that need an environmentally preferred parts washer solvent.
