The Future Of Wind Power In The US

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 83

Nature has provided mankind with a lot of resources for survival. Everything in nature has its own use, if only we know how to use it wisely.

One of man's necessities is the supply of energy. Nowadays, there have been issues on energy shortage and the price of energy continually increases. With this, we have to tap our natural resources for to answer our energy need.

Aside from the sun, one of the possible sources of energy is the wind. Wind can be converted into a useful type of energy. Wind power is the conversion of wind into energy. This can be done by using wind turbines for the production of electricity, windmills for mechanical power, and wind pumps for pumping water or for drainage.

Wind energy has been practically used as early as the 7th century. In the US, wind pumps were used in farming and ranching. The production of wind turbine has expanded to many countries in different parts of the world and wind energy is expected to develop worldwide in the next few decades to come.

Wind power can excellently complement solar power. In some parts of the US where the sun does not always shine, wind power can be an option for an energy source. In places where the sun is not shining, the wind is usually blowing.

Here are some advantages of using wind power as a source of energy.

1. Wind energy is renewable. There is no need for fuel or other sources of energy to be expended.2. Wind farms are safe to the environment and they do not produce so much noise.3. Wind energy is environment friendly. It does not emit harmful greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide.4. Using wind power is long lasting.

In some countries, it is the current trend to build their wind farms along the shorelines; although wind farms could also be situated in locations where ground variation occurs as wind is created from when different surface areas heat up at different rates.

In the US, the wind power is a very important source of energy. Wind energy generation in the US has grown quickly over the last several years. The construction of wind energy generation capacity in 2011 totaled 6810 megawatts (MW) resulting to the cumulative installed capacity to reach 46,919 MW. The wind power industry of US is not only boosting wind energy power but also generates thousands of jobs which makes a great impact in the economy.

In the future, wind power is seen as a being the most cost effective source of electricity. At present, it is already gearing towards that status. The eventual depletion of non-renewable sources of energy is rapidly causing increase in the power production. It is but right to explore and improve the capacity of the wind to produce and provide electricity to every household and other establishment.
