GPS Tracking Off Road

March 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 220

One of the most popular types of car these days are the 4x4 SUV, off-road, all-terrain, recreational uphill vehicles. Although many are used on short jaunts taking kids on the school run, just as many are deployed across the countryside at weekends in hillside challenges and fording competitions.

There are lots of people who take great pleasure in trekking across the countryside and discovering new and remote places in the landscape. Here off-road vehicles fitted with GPS tracking and sat nav systems will find that their pleasure is doubly enhanced.

GPS mapping The GPS tracking system linked to an online computer map, such as Google or Bing, enables drivers travelling across country to keep an eye on their progress and also be aware of up and coming dangers and features. There's no need to wonder what is over the horizon when the GPS tracker will let you know where you are and you can simply check online.

These systems are also useful for getting to the head of an off-road trail. Many of these outdoor adventure tracks themselves start in the middle of nowhere and are just as difficult to locate. With a GPS tracker in your SUV you can easily find the starting point for your drive and also make sure you don't get lost during the ride itself.

GPS technology The other advantage of GPS tracking is that because they use satellite technology and do not rely on mobile phone towers they are better able to pinpoint your location in remote landscapes where there is little chance of a mobile phone tower being erected, let alone three that are required to triangulate your position.

Another benefit of GPS tracking units fitted to cars is the telemetric information you are able to download after your drive. You can create a profile of your trip, including information about speeds, stopping times, direction and location. Driving around tricky, challenging landscapes can be great fun and although getting lost is a possibility, with a GPS tracker on board you will always know where you are and be able to pick a route back to civilisation.

GPS weekend trip If you are planning on taking your 4WD vehicle off-road then it is worth taking some time to plan your trip first, noting any dangerous terrain, interesting features or steep drops en-route, good points to pull over for a break and arrange rendezvous points with other travellers.

Off-roading enthusiasts will find their pastime that much more fun when they know exactly where they are going and what is around them with the aid of a GPS system.

Anyone who has ever got lost in the woods will appreciate the benefits of their GPS tracking device. That is why Alex got involved in designing and testing vehicle tracking systems.
