The Perfect Golf Swing Lies Within Your Grasp

February 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 154

The perfect golf swing: as elusive as that "Dem Pimpernel" and as mythical as the unicorn-riding fairies of Narnia. Learning the perfect swing is something that takes even the professionals years and years, as the perfect swing is different for each person. Some people spend years practicing their swing, and they end up becoming contortionists, death defying acrobats, and Air Force pilots just because these professions are so much easier. If you have been scouring your closet for that "perfect swing", there is bad news and good news. The bad news is that the clubs have very little to do with the perfect swing, but the good news is that the perfect golf swing lies within your body.

As "epic" as it sounds to say "The Force is Within You", that really is the case. Your body is the vehicle for the perfect swing, so let's get down to brass tacks and figure out what the perfect swing entails:

Grip - The Interlocking Grip means putting your pinky finger of your front hand under the forefinger of your back hand. The Overlapping Grip means placing the pinky over the forefinger. The Strong position has 2/3 of the left hand's knuckles on the front of the club, the neutral position has a single knuckle of your left hand on the front of the grip, while the weak position shows no knuckles.

Hand Placement - The placement of your hands has a lot to do with the perfection of your swing, and you have to do it just right. Hold the club in your left hand just at the base of your fingers, and close the palm over it. Use your right hand to hold the club with your fingers more than your hand, at the bottom of your left hand, with your right hand's fingers folded over the fingers of you left hand.

Backswing - Start your backswing not with your hands, but with your arms. Slowly and fluidly pull it away from your body in one motion, and turn your left hips and shoulders with the turn. Set your hands once the club passes your waist, and make sure your hands aren't broken down as the club reaches the top of your backswing.

Downswing -- This is the part of the swing that you have to get just right, and many people use different techniques. Some consider a left arm pull to be the best, while others swing with their left side. Finish - The finish has to end high, and the face of the club needs to be perfectly squared for the seconds after the hit in order to ensure that the golf ball goes just where you want it to go.
