Explanation of Different Sets of Golf Tees

February 27, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 163

Over the last few years, golf has become an increasingly popular sport. Children and adults pick up the sport for its camaraderie, challenge and the enjoyment they get while playing a round of golf. Beginners though, face a steep learning curve in order to pick up the game. One of the lessons a new golfer must learn is the basic elements of a golf course.

Most courses have different designs terrains, shapes and lengths, but they also have a lot of the things very similar across all golf courses. No matter what course you play on, you will find these elements present on the course.

Today we are going to talk about the teeing area. This is where you start the hole, so you might as well start here while learning about the basic elements of the course you will be playing.

The tee boxes are one of the few things a new golfer must understand. Usually, every golf course has at least three, but more commonly four tees to hit from at the start of each hole. These teeing areas are commonly marked with either a red, white and blue or black marker.

Most women hit at the red markers, and they are commonly called the women's tees. This is the box located closest to the green or golf hole. Younger players and beginners should also play from this set of markers.

The white tee boxes are found right after the ladies tees. This is considered the regular box and is usually where an average golfer starts a hole.

The blue tee markers are what we call the "championship tees". This is specifically made for golfers that have a lower handicap or play better than the average golfer. These teeing areas are sometimes marked with a black marker, but the black marker is usually set for the fourth or farthest tee box in most golf courses.

The black tee off boxes are also widely considered as the championship tees, but they are farther away than the blue tees. Whatever the starting point on each hole, these tees usually have at least three tee boxes. You need to decide what skill level you are and play from the tee box that fits your game. You should not play from the championship tee if you are a beginner.

In order to get the most enjoyment out of your round, play the tee boxes that fit your skill level. Only scratch golfers and professionals should play the back tees. Beginners should play the front, and everyone else the middle tees.
