Bubba Watson Wins The Masters

April 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 158

Ah, The Masters, the first Major golf tournament of the year which always makes it the most anticipated. The fact that Tiger Woods played so well winning Arnold Palmer's tournament just 2 weeks earlier intensified the atmosphere leading up to this year's Masters.

Then there is Rory McElroy who has shown that he may even be the next Tiger. Experts were even going so far as predicting a Sunday shootout between Tiger and Rory. Alas it didn't happen which is so often the case. They both played pretty average professional golf and in fact did tie at 5 over. Note that was 5 over, not even 5 under and 10 under was what it would take this year and then just to get into a playoff. Golf is really a tough game to predict. Anyone can get hot on any given day and play like they're the best player in the world. The key is to play "good" the other 3 days keeping the leaders in sight so if and when you do get hot, it will spring you to the forefront and hopefully the win.

As the weekend progressed CBS showed less and less of Tiger's shots which was really a good thing. Tiger's conduct throughout the tournament was unbecoming a professional. All players make bad shots, some more than others, but they know how to conduct themselves. It's readily apparent a player is upset with a bad shot without him having to openly cuss or throw his clubs or even in Tiger's case, kick a club.

I believe this attitude of I can do whatever I want is way out of line. John Daly comes to mind. It wasn't acceptable in his case and it's not in Tiger's case or anyone else's. No one is bigger than the game and you would think Tiger would have already learned that with his recent history. What made Tiger's behavior even worse and perhaps more noticeable is this was The Masters. This is hallowed tournament and it would not surprise me if the powers that be for The Masters and the PGA Tour have a few words with Tiger concerning his conduct. I even heard the British Open was now regretting Tiger playing there.

However, let's not take anything away from Bubba. He played great and made the shots when he had to. The 2nd hole playoff win over Louis Oosthuizen is a great win for him. His emotions got the better of him, but I see nothing wrong with that. It's every professional golfers dream to win The Masters. He even said at the Green Jacket presentation that winning The Masters was not something he had ever dreamed was possible for him. So you can imagine the emotions running in him when he made that last putt to make it official.

It was a great tournament with a lot of great shots and some not so good. Who will ever forget Louis Oosthuizen's double eagle at hole #2 to put him in the lead. What a beautiful shot! Everyone kept waiting for Phil Mickelson to make his move, but it was just not to be. So congratulations Bubba for a great win in The Masters of 2012!
