1 Week to a More Powerful and Accurate Golf Swing (Part 2)

February 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 113

Here is the second installment in our series, "1 Week to a More Powerful and Accurate Golf Swing" use these recommendations for a week, and you'll be smashing the ball down the fairway and hunting pins on your next round! As mentioned previously we don't believe buying the next hottest driver or set of irons in the best way to improve one's golf game. Don't get us wrong, having a quality driver and a set of irons that fit your game can and will help to some degree, however for a dramatic improvement in your game and your scores, we believe improving the swing itself will in fact lead to your playing the very best golf of your life. The second tip that will lead to the greatest improvement in your game is:

Perfect practice and drills lead to power and consistency on the golf course - Develop a practice routine.

How many times do you get to the club, grab your cleats and clubs and go right to the first tee, take a couple of swings and grip it and rip it? This will NOT lead to you playing your very best golf. Lets face it, golf is a game that takes a certain amount of repetitions to get a feel for the game. Yes you can sprint to the first tee, swing away and play golf, but we believe having a routine, that is a routine for practice and warm up will lead to you playing great golf. Your routine can be as simple as hitting 1 bucket of balls as you go through all the clubs in your bag or just hitting a few balls with your driver, 7 iron, and wedge. But HAVING a routine is the point, you will be much more consistent and find yourself in better scoring positions on the course when you've had an opportunity to warm up, stretch and get your swing going by hitting a few balls.

Having a practice routine, warm up routine, pre-shot routine will all aid in your ability hit the golf ball with tremendous power and develop laser like consistency with your irons. This is a simple but very effective tool that all the worlds best players use each and every time they play a competitive game of golf. You too can use this tool to improve your performance the next time you play a competitive game of golf.

Here are our thoughts about a Pre-round warm up routine.

1. Stretch your body- stretch your shoulders, back, legs and calf's. Place a club across your shoulders and make your swing motion very slowly using only your hips and shoulders.

2. Left handed only swing (for a right hand player)- take your 7 iron and swing it using only your left hand, feel the rhythm. Start slow and swing the club progressively faster.

3. Chip a few-Hit a few- Ideally chip using the club you most often chip with then hit balls with your full swing starting with your 7 iron, go to your wedge, then 3 wood and finish with driver. Once you have done this go directly to the first tee and enjoy the best round of your life!

So get started today and develop your warm up/practice routine, if you do this when you finish your next round, you'll be able to keep your wallet in your pocket at the 19th hole! Look for the 3rd installment for our Power Golf program to be out soon and have fun, fun, fun playing on the golf course.

Golf is a timeless game, but today the average players score is no better then is was 20 years ago.

Ever wonder why?

With all the improvement in equipment, golf fitness, golf balls and those huge drivers of today, we should all be shooting 63-64 every time out....right?

At Old School Power Golf we believe it's the swing and not the club that makes the player improve and play better golf yet sadly, Most recreational players never master one simple old school power move that is CRITICAL to making sound contact with the golf ball, hitting longer, more accurate shots and shooting very good scores. Don't take our word for it, See for yourself, go to and take a look, I have included 1 old diagram from Doc's golf manual to show you one part of swing drills in the manual.
