1 Week to a More Powerful and Accurate Golf Swing Part 1

February 20, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 133

Golf, it's our passion, we teach it, play it, watch it, travel to enjoy it and study the history of it. From the swings of Bobby Jones, to Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead and to the players of today. With the Masters just on the horizon and spring in the air in much of the country, here is the first part of our series "1 week to more Power and Accuracy in your Golf Swing." Follow these recommendations for a week and you'll be on your way to the best golf of your life!

Take the 2012 Northern Trust open, it was an excellent example of how power can make all the difference in your score, your approach to each hole and ultimately your performance. Take Phil for example, he was smashing the ball long and true, his opening round of 66 was a direct result of his position off the tee by driving the ball long and true to his target. However it was Sergio's Sunday performance that really stood out, even with his well known putting problems Sergio shot a final round of 64, because he was lucky with the putter and made 2- 50 footers yes, but it was his power off the tee that gave him birdie opportunities on the par 5's and short iron's into the par 4's. His power got him to finish tied for 4th and improved his finish by an amazing 45 spots! That 64 was with 2 bogeys on his front side and a poor par on the par 5 17th which he did birdie on Thursday.

At 5' 10" 190 lbs. Sergio is not an imposing man, but his 11th rank in driving distance at 303.3 yards for the tournament certainly stands on its own.

Here is your first step in getting ball smashing power and pin hunting accuracy.

1. Flexibility- Golf is a game that requires a heavy dose of flexibility, don't worry if your not as flexible as you once were, we can help!

Your first step is to get going on a stretching and flexibility program. Now this can be as simple as some lite stretching to doing a full routine of yoga, you need to judge your current level of flexibility. Start with some lite work and work up slowly to getting into some deep stretches for your shoulders, back, hips and legs. Being more flexible will help you to make a solid turn and help you to put the golf club on plane as you come through the hitting zone.

Our philosophy is to work on the fundamentals, not to try to get better by buying the latest golf gadget or super powered driver. You'll go broke chasing a great golf swing that way!

To play your very best golf, work to develop a sound swing, learn how to generate effortless power and you will reach your potential in your Golf game. Look for our next installment to be coming soon for the second step in getting the very most form your swing, and your golf game. This year is the season you'll be the big Dawg in your foursome....and they'll be the ones getting their wallets out on the 19th hole!

Golf is a timeless game, but today the average players score is no better then is was 20 years ago.

Ever wonder why?

With all the improvement in equipment, golf fitness, golf balls and those huge drivers of today, we should all be shooting 63-64 every time out....right?

At Old School Power Golf we believe it's the swing and not the club that makes the player improve and play better yet sadly, Most recreational players never master this one simple old school power move that is CRITICAL to making sound contact with the golf ball, hitting longer, more accurate shots and shooting very good scores. Don't take our word for it, See for yourself, go to and take a look, I have included 1 old diagram from Doc's golf manual to show you one part of swing drills in the manual.
