Collectibles In Gold

There are interesting pieces of information regarding the history of Indian Head gold coins. These were also known as the Pratt-Bigelow gold coins. There were two coins which were made of identical design and produced by the United States Mint in the early years of the twentieth century. The first piece is that of two and a half dollar which had the image of a quarter eagles and that of a five dollar coin signified by the image of the half eagle. The origins of the two types of coins differ. The quarter eagle was probably coined in the years between 1908 to 1915. They were again produced between 1925 to 1929. When it comes to the half eagle coins, these were coined from 1908 to 1916 and then again in the year 1929. These coins are the only ones which contain recessed designs on them which are still in circulation. Such denominations were not produced hence forth after the seventies.

Silver Rounds As Collectibles

Another form of investment in collectibles is in Buffalo silver rounds. Such rounds are similar to coins in the way they are cast and made. However, they are called coins since they are made by private mints and hence, cannot be part of the official circulation and considered as currency. Such rounds are minted purely for investment purposes. Thus, they usually do not have any monetary value except for the value of the silver content of such rounds. These bullion rounds are made out of .999 fine silver of one ounce in weight. The United States large silver dollar is comparable to such rounds due to similarity in the silver content. With such knowledge, there are many collectors who are rushing to invest in such rounds as the silver prices are at an all time high this year.

Rare Silver Proof Coins As Memorabilia

There is another form of popular collectible which is the silver proof coins. Such coins were started way back in the 1850s. They were produced by the US mint though they were more for demonstration than meant for circulation as currency coins. Such proof sets are still coined from time to time in different metal combinations. The silver proof coins get their name due to the special dies and the casting process which is used to create such coins. The coins are made of silver blank coins on which the dies are cast twice. The dies are highly polished to provide them the mirror like quality. On the one side there is the raised surface of the coins which is produced by the adding of acids. Such coins are collected by Americans usually to commemorate special occasions, such as weddings, births, anniversaries and so forth. These do not have value in circulation expect for the valuation in silver. There are many online dealers in silver proof coins. If one wishes to opt for online purchase, one should do through research to be ensured of the authenticity of such dealings.

Indian Head Gold Coins can command a very high price due to their rarity provided they are in good condition. Buffalo Silver Rounds are among the most popular silver rounds because of their design.
